The DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (http://daissy.eap.gr), in collaboration with the Hellenic National Committee of the International Council of Museums ( http://network.icom.museum/icom-greece/ ), is organizing for the second consecutive year the International Conference entitled “DC-Me 2: Digital Challenges for Museum Experts”, on Friday 25th November 2016 at the Electra Metropolis Hotel, 15 Mitropoleos street, Athens.
The Conference is supported by the project “Mu.SA: Museum Sector Alliance”, which was approved recently in the European Framework of Erasmus+ / Sector Skills Alliances. The HOU is the coordinating partner of the project, in which participate 11 more partners from Greece, Italy, Portugal and Belgium.
The project involves researching and recording the digital skills and competences of the museum professionals, profiling the new occupational roles and developing the corresponding professional development training programs. The aim is the provision of high quality training programmes in digital skills and e-competences to the personnel of European museums and the Culture sector in general.
In the conference sessions, the emerging needs regarding digital and transferable competences of the Museum professionals will be recorded, due to the constant evolution of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and the increasing adoption of ICT technology by the Museums and other cultural organizations. Speakers from Greece and the project countries will present the cultural Agenda of Europe through the European strategies for a Cultural and Creative Europe, the emerging occupational profiles in the Museum sector and contemporary case studies of training culture professionals in digital and transferable competences. During the round tables included in the last session, conference participants will have the opportunity to actively contribute to the conference topics and discussions.
The conference is addressed to cultural heritage institutions and professionals in the Culture sector (staff, managers, board members, and policy-makers), vocational educational and training organizations (VET), students, social partners and everyone interested from the ICT and Culture sectors and industry.

Robert Manchin is the president and acting Secretary General of Culture Action Europe and the President of Europa Nova. He is also a Distinguished Senior Scholar at the University of Pannonia Koszeg Knowledge Center. Previously, Robert Manchin was the Senior Vice President of Gallup Organisation, Princeton and the Chairman and Managing Director of Gallup Europe.
Romina Surace graduate in Political Science, attended the “Master of Art and Culture Management” of the Trentino School of Management. As senior researcher in Symbola Foundation (since 2007) managed national projects focused on cultural and creative industries, green economy, local development and social innovation. At the core of job's mission is to identify, select, promote best practices and to lobby for them among institutions and decision makers. This job has given her the chance to know many innovators who are relentlessly working on the ground in the different economic sectors. In this capacity, she have built, maintained and expanded a wide network of innovative entrepreneurs both at local and national level, in the whole territory of Italy. In particular, she coordinates the report I am Culture together with Domenico Sturabotti, handles contact with all the cultural and creative professional involved and is responsible for the editing “I am Culture” annual Report: the role of the cultural and creative industries in the Italian economic system.
Dr. Achilles D. Kameas received his Engineering Diploma (in 1989) and his Ph.D. (in 1995, in Human-Computer Interaction), both from the Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics, Univ. of Patras, Greece. He has also received formal education on Adult Education and on Open and Distance Education. Since 2003 he is a member of staff (with tenure) with the Hellenic Open University (HOU), where he teaches Pervasive Systems and Software Design (currently an Associate Professor). He is the Director of the Postgraduate Study Programme on “Pervasive and Mobile Computing Systems” (http://sdy.eap.gr/). Since September 2016, he is the Deputy Dean of the School of Science and Technology.
Since 2000 he established the DAISSy research group (Dynamic Ambient Intelligent Social Systems) (http://daissy.eap.gr), aiming to contribute to the realization of an advanced humane society by inventing technology that adapts and supports human needs and not the other way round! Since its establishment, the DAISSy group has coordinated and participated in more than 30 national and European projects, in various frameworks (i.e. FP5, FP6, FP7, Lifelong Learning, Erasmus+, etc.), amassing a total funding of more than 7,5 MEuro.
He has participated as researcher / group leader in several EU and national R&D projects. Examples are the IST (FP5, FP6 and FP7) projects e-Gadgets, Astra, Plants, Social and Atraco (he was the scientific coordinator of the first two), the LLP projects TIPS, VAB, PIN, CompAAL, EngAGEnt, Criton, SONETOR and eCultSkills (he was the coordinator of the last two), the Erasmus+ projects P4LLL-Tec, MOOQ, i-Care, DigiPlace, TIME, SEM@Schools, Epoque, LinguaCuisine, TOY+, BRIGHTS and SONETBull (he is coordinator of the latter) and the national projects FragMex and ADVENT (he was coordinator of the latter). He also coordinates the H2020 project UMI-Sci-Ed and the Erasmus+ Sector Skills Alliance project Mu.SA (Museum Sector Alliance).
He has published more than 120 journal articles, conference papers and book chapters, authored three university textbooks and co-edited more than ten books.
He was a member of the ESCO Reference Group on ICT Services. He is a member of the CEN PC428 on e-competences and ICT professionalism, the CEN Workshop on e-Skills and the Course & Curriculum pool of experts of EADTU.
Panagiota Polymeropoulou is an Archaeologist – Museologist, MSc. She was awarded with educational Scholarship from State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) for postgraduate studies in Museology. She is working as Researcher with the DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU), Greece. Since 2014, she participates in research and development European Programs with HOU. She has served as lecturer (adjunct faculty) at the Technological Educational Institution (TEI) of Western Greece, Department of Museology, Museography and Exhibitions Designing, teaching management, safeguarding & promotion of Cultural Heritage, Museology. She supervised student thesis and teamwork. Since 2007 worked as contract archaeologist in field excavations with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Achaia and of Aetolia-Acarnania and Lefkada, Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports. She has published in international journals and conference proceedings and has been program committee & journals and conferences reviewer. Her research interests are: digital cultural heritage, virtual archeology, museology, digitization, documentation, ICT in Culture. Member of ICOM and CAA-GR.
Ana Fernambuco holds a Master in Sociology. Founder of Mapa das Ideias, Member of ICOM, she is responsible for project and management departments in the company. She has also led a number of training programs for museum professionals, and was responsible for the creation, implementation and management of Education Services Programmes provided by the company to several Portuguese (public and private) museums. She was also the territory (neighbourhood) coordinator of the estate prevention program for juvenile delinquency “Escolhas”, where she served as a liaison between the program and the local institutions working in that territory/community.
Through Mapa das Ideias she has been responsible for the management and implementation of several European projects, among which are the Museum Mediator project, led by Mapa, and the eCultSkills project, led by HOU, with Mapa as a partner.
Inês Câmara is PhD candidate in Communication Sciences on “Museum and Visitors”. Founder of Mapa das Ideias, member of ICOM and of the European Sociological Association (ESA), she has been responsible for the development of key projects in national and local museums in Portugal, and is the author of several articles and whitepapers on Museums and their audiences. Expert in Museum Mediation, Inês Câmara has also led several training programs for museum professionals, focusing on enhancing the museum experience for audiences, and museum marketing for specific targets. She has been recently involved in training programs for unemployed groups.

Dr. Alexandra Bounia is professor of museology at the University of the Aegean, Greece, Department of Cultural Technology and Communication. She is also currently the Chair of ICOM Greece. She studied archaeology and history of art at the University of Athens and museum studies at the University of Leicester, UK. She has published in Greek and international journals and participates in research projects in Greece and abroad. Her most recent book is entitled Museums and Identity: the case of Cyprus (co-author Theopisti Stylianou-Lambert), and it is published by Routledge.
Margherita Sani works in the Museum Department of the Institute of Cultural Heritage of the Region Emilia-Romagna, where she is in charge of international projects. She has worked for the definition of museum standards and has developed training courses for museum staff. In the last 15 years she has also designed and managed several EU funded projects, in particular on museum education, lifelong learning and intercultural dialogue, some of which have been identified as best practice by the EU Commission. She is an active member of many professional museum associations and networks, among which, NEMO, ICOM International, EMA – European Museum Academy and the Museum Ed-AMECO network, which gathers museum education organisations and museum networks in Canada and North America.
Dr. Nikolaos Georgiadis is a Political Scientist with a PhD on Philosophy and Media Aesthetics. He’s been a VET expert and practitioner for more than 6 years and has also worked as an advisor and researcher for ministries and other institutions. He is identified as national expert on defining and writing Learning Outcomes and is also the Dpt Coordinator of ReferNet GR team. He is also member of the TWG of Friedrich Ebert Institute (Greek Dpt)(the TWG is supporting VET reform in Greece). He is currently working as scientific advisor to the President of the Governing Board of EOPPEP. Some of the projects in which he has participated are summarized below:

Claudia Matera graduated in History of Art, specialized in Contemporary History of Art at Sapienza University of Rome, attended a two-years postgraduate school in Cultural Heritage at Università degli Studi della Tuscia. She’s PhD student at Sapienza University of Rome.
At Link Campus University she is a researcher, game designer, social media strategist (for EU projects in CCIs sector) and support professor at Arts undergraduate programmes and MAs of Cultural Heritage.
She has been assistant curator in many international exhibitions in Italian Museums and founder, game designer and social media content strategist at NutGames s.r.l.. She is Creative Entrepreneur Advisor, level 7 Professional (Aspire2Create – European Project, www.aspire2create.eu ).
Her field of scientific interests are serious games, mobile learning and digital game based learning, educational and learning methods with new technologies in Museums, archaeological and urban area, Museology and Contemporary History of Art.
Dr. Paula Menino Homem holds a Combined Degree in History and Archaeology, a Degree in Conservation and Restoration of Archaeological and Ethnographic Artifacts, a MSC in Chemistry Applied to Cultural Heritage and a PhD in Museology. Her research interests include the domain of risk management, preventive conservation, integrated and sustainable protection of cultural heritage, especially in museum contexts.
She is a researcher at CITCEM (Transdisciplinary “Culture, Space and Memory” Research Centre), U. Porto, and has been a researcher at DMFEUP (Faculty of Engineering Materials Department), U. Porto, at CETAC.MEDIA (Centre of Studies in Technologies and Communication Sciences), U. Aveiro/ U. Porto, and at CCMM (Centre for Molecular Sciences and Materials), U. Lisbon. She’s ICOM-CC member and was ICOM-PT Board member (2008-2014). She was the Portuguese Delegate for the COST Action D42_EnviArt Management Committee, participated in some European projects (LiDO; MASTER; IMPACT; NOE). Is coordinating member of Digital Museum Project for U. Porto and adviser for the EU-LAC Museums Project.
Dr. Maria Manuela Pinto holds an undergraduate degree in History, U. Porto, a Specialization in Documental Sciences, U. Coimbra, an equivalent to MA in Information Science, U. Porto, and a PhD in Information and Communication in Digital Platforms, U. Porto|U. Aveiro. She is a researcher of Centre of Studies in Technologies and Communication Sciences (CETAC.MEDIA) and of the Centre for Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship, at the Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science - Associate Laboratory (CITE/INESCTEC). She develops research in the area of information management and information services management, preservation of information and informational behavior. The most recent projects were related with information management and preservation, with a special focus in the digital field, information literacy, digital inclusion, digital heritage and info-communicational processes mediated by ICT. Manuela structured the Unit of University Extension and Community Services (UNAPS - FLUP) and assumed its coordination (2010-14). Currently, she coordinates the project Digital Museum for U. Porto.
Antonia Silvaggi is project manager and researcher for Melting Pro in Rome, Italy. She has been working on the ADESTE project since the concept design phase, and she has been one of the audience development trainers and action learning facilitators in the Italian piloting. She has extensive experience in working on international projects about cultural participation, audience development, digital storytelling and training.
Since October 2015, she has been co-opted on ENCATC’s Board to work on an audience development special project. She is one of the advisors for the European Union study - Engage audiences. Melting Pro is active in the field of arts and cultural management, providing support, research and training.
Dr. Alexandre Matos holds a BA in History – scientific branch by Portucalense University, Master and PhD in Museology from Porto University he’s currently Director of the Department of Research and Training of Sistemas do Futuro, Lda. and Affiliate Professor in the Department of Cultural Heritage Sciences and Techniques, Faculty of Arts and Humanities of University of Porto.
His research interests cover areas such as collections management policies, standardisation in museums, the use of social networks in the cultural sector and the dissemination of collections using digital tools and techniques like storytelling.
He is a researcher at the Centro de Investigação Transdisciplinar Cultura Espaço e Memória (CITCEM – www.citcem.org) and eCultObservatory ambassador (www.ecultobservatory.eu).
He’s member of the current governing bodies of ICOM Portugal and a board member of CIDOC. He’s also author of the blog Mouseion (www.mouseion.pt).
Dr. Ana Carvalho holds a PhD in History and Philosophy of Science, specialization in Museology from the University of Évora (2015), a master degree in Museology (University of Évora, 2009). She is a post-doctoral researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre for History, Cultures and Societies (CIDEHUS) of the University of Évora and her research focus on museums and cultural heritage (tangible and intangible). Her research interests also cover areas such as the use of digital tools and techniques for the dissemination of intangible heritage. She is a member of the editorial board of the Portuguese scientific journal “MIDAS. Museum Interdisciplinary Studies” and has published Museus e Diversidade Cultural: Da Representação aos Públicos (2016) and Os Museus e o Património Cultural Imaterial (2011). She is member of the current governing bodies of ICOM Portugal and is editor of ICOM Portugal bulletin.

Magdalini Remoundou is Head of Culture and Communication Studies at the AKMI Mitropolitiko College. Programme Leader of the BA in Media Production with two strands: Film Directing & Journalism in collaboration with Queen Margaret University delivered in Athens by AKMI Mitropolitiko College.
Studies: MA in Media and Communication: Major Cultural Studies (with distinction) at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, BA Political Sciences and Public Administration in Law Faculty of National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, BA Acting Studies in Higher Drama School of Athens Odeon, BA in Film & TV Directing Studies in E. Hatzikou Film & TV School of Directing Studies. Greek participation in professional masterclass for Film Direction organized by European Summer Film School conducted by the internationally well known director Kristof Zanussi.
Professional Experience 1983-to date: Director and Producer for various kinds of TV programmes, (fiction, news broadcasting, shows, magazines etc, live and recorded). Also, she has worked as radio producer, broadcaster and director in radio theatrical plays. She has collaborated with the Greek National TV, ERT-SA., many TV production companies and private TV channels as director, executive producer, casting director, scriptwriter, and programme counselor. Moreover, she has been involved as a production director in theatrical productions and music performances of music groups from abroad.
She has been verified by the Greek Ministry of Education as a specific tutor and examiner in Acting and Directing Studies.
