DAISSy-HOU announces the second round of the NEFELE MOOC: Registration is open to join in!

logo-nefeleThe DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (Hellenic Open University) announces a second round of implementation of the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on “Promoting the professional development of students in school”, which is part of the European project “Neet prevention in Educational systems through positive Future vision Enhancing Learning and teacher Education-NEFELE”, currently undergoing by DAISSy-HOU, as the Greek partner. It is a modern MOOC, aimed at training teachers in their critical role of supporting the professional development of students. The first round of the MOOC implementation was completed with success; the same MOOC is launched once again, so that to respond to the interest of those who missed the opportunity to join in it, in the recent past.

Specifically, the MOOC includes four (4) training modules based on the theoretical framework of career development and positive psychology, linked to practical examples for teachers, so that they can promote career planning for their students in the classroom. It also has one (1) educational module based on NEFELE BOX, which is the toolkit for the tangible user interface that the teacher can utilize with the students, supporting the design of their future career path. It is interspersed with videos, presentations and reading material as well as short quizzes (at the end of each module) so that learners can assess their progress.

In particular, the e-learning platform of the NEFELE project is designed and developed in English, Italian, Greek, Spanish and Dutch. It fosters collaboration and exchange among the participants, as it includes forums and discussion areas. The MOOC learning content in English [e.g. Open Education Resources (OERs), lectures, video scripts, presentations] was collected, developed and based on this, the MOOC videos were created. It is noteworthy that the learning materials, classified into modules, are available in five (5) languages under the NEFELE project partnership scheme.

Upon successful completion of the MOOC, participants will learn about:

  • Current and future challenges related to the world of work
  • Main aspects and main theories of career development from childhood to adolescence
  • How the teacher can support the career development and well-being of students in the school environment
  • Main positive psychology theories of well-being
  • Ways of positive education intervention in the school environment
  • Tangible user interfaces
  • Digital career narrative
  • Use of the NEFELE Box to promote career development and wellbeing in the classroom

It is worth noting that:

  • The new round of the NEFELE MOOC starts on Μarch 20, 2024, has a five(5)-week duration and ends on April 24, 2024.
  • The deadline for registration is March 17, 2024.
  • Participants who successfully complete the MOOC will receive a Certificate of Completion
  • It is provided free of charge to any interested party, internationally.
  • Registration is pre-required and can be done by submitting an application form at the following link. 

NEFELE is a 30-month project (1st December 2021-31st May 2024), funded by the Erasmus+ EU programme and implemented by a consortium of six (6) partners from five (5) countries (Spain, Italy, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Greece), with DAISSy-HOU as the Greek partner.  The Research Group is responsible for the development of the MOOC and the e-learning platform – it shares a longterm experience in MOOC development and has been working intensively, so that to provide a modern educational tool for fulfilling the needs of teachers, effectively.

Invitation by DAISSy-HOU to the online seminar on “Progress and results towards a European Roadmap on STE(A)M education” of “The SEER” project

logo-seerThe DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU)  invites you to join the “STE(A)M Education European Roadmap (the SEER) Seminar: Progress and results towards a European Roadmap on STE(A)M education”, to be held online on  Wednesday 27th March 2024 (16:00 – 17:15 CET) . The event is part of the “STE(A)M Education European Roadmap (the SEER)” EU project, currently undergoing by the DAISSy-HOU, as the Greek partner.

Through this interactive online seminar, the SEER team will showcase the results of the project to date while opening a conversation with practitioners and key education stakeholders on the availability and accessibility of STE(A)M education resources and continuous professional development opportunities for teachers. Guest projects will offer additional perspectives on STE(A)M teaching and learning, which combined with the SEER will provide the audience with a cohesive view of the journey ahead to mainstreaming STE(A)M education in Europe.

The seminar is addressed to teachers, educators and all other stakeholders interested in joining the conversation on the diversity and the value of STE(A)M practices and the availability of STE(A)M resources and professional development opportunities for practitioners.

It is noteworthy, that the seminar will showcase “The New STE(A)M Education European Roadmap Idea”, a central project output that was published in February 2024 and focuses on the process and methodology that led to the formulation of the initial idea and structure of the roadmap. This tool intends to align stakeholders, enhance policy, centralize resources, boost education-industry partnerships, and uphold superior teaching methods to improve STE(A)M education in Europe. Furthermore, it will facilitate the collaboration and coordination between “The SEER” and the two sister projects, “Sense” and “Road Steamer”, which will lead to the development of the Atlas of Roadmaps.

DAISSy – HOU announces the 2nd student competition on the contemporary socio -economic challenges via the “Learn.Inc ” project!

logo-learnIncThe DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU is pleased to announce the 2nd student competition on “Using the digital educational environment to solve modern socio-economic challenges (Challenge Based Learning -CBL)”  to be implemented within the framework of the “Learn.Inc : Learning Incubator for Project- based Teaching and Training through ResearchEU project.

In particular, with regard to the CBL student competition of the Learn.Inc project, it is noteworthy that:

  • It is addressed to all postgraduate and PhD students of Greek Universities.
  • It is carried out in cooperation with Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu (Romania), Sofia University St. Clement Ohridski (Bulgaria), Canakkale Onsekiz Mart Universitesi (Turkey) and Research & Training Foundation Point Foundation (Bulgaria).

The aim of the student competition is to highlight innovative ideas in order to solve cutting-edge problems of socio-economic reality. By bringing learning and formal education closer to the agenda of the society and the local communities, the Learn.Inc project seeks to create a supportive environment for the launch of “bottom-up” initiatives, accessible to both the teachers and the students, so that they all develop knowledge in a flexible way. At the same time, research is a key element of the whole process, where students will follow personalized learning paths that will lead them to their own results and achievements. The need of the students to interface with both private businesses and social organizations, is the impetus of the CBL student competition.

More precisely, the participants of the CBL competition are invited to develop a short idea, so that learning takes place through the identification, the analysis and the design of a solution to a real social, technical  or business problem. Looking for answers to the above stages, students are invited to present their scientific proposals to an Evaluation Committee, consisting of representatives of the Learn.Inc project team and the associated partner institutions.

As a result, the participants in the CBL student competition will have the opportunity to be involved in a creative process of participatory training (in collaboration with other users and groups from the University and business community) in order to develop skills, aiming at experiencing their idea being shaped and transformed into a complete application. A pitching exchange among the various ideas will be part of the competition, to be followed by an evaluation process and an award to the most innovative proposals.

The CBL student competition of the Learn.Inc project includes the following phases:

  • Selection of candidates : 12th– 15th March 2024
  • Implementation of the competition : March 2024

The Learn.Inc is a three-year project, co-funded by the European Union, in the framework of the “ERASMUS+/Key Program Action 2 Sector: Partnerships for Cooperation in a field of Higher Education” program. It is implemented by a consortium of five (5) partners from four (4) countries (Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, Greece) with the DAISSy Research Group of the HOU being the Greek partner, responsible for the implementation of all actions at national level and participating in all project intellectual outputs.

Invitation to the event “Expert Consultation on Visual Media Literacy in Education” of the european co-funded project “Critical visual media literacy and empowerment”

The event will take place in Brussels on Thursday 21st of March 2024, from 2 to 5:30 PM at the Apulia Region offices in Rue du Trône 62.

The main objectives of the event are:

  • To present the key results developed by the CLIP consortium, namely the report on Visual Media Literacy in Europe and the micro-learning course in critical visual media literacy and fluency.
  • To discuss and enrich the Guidelines and Recommendations elaborated to support academic staff and educators in developing sustainable strategies to embed visual media literacy in their learning offers.
  • To engage with like-minded professionals on the topics of Visual Media Literacy, teaching programs, and training.

“Supporting the professional development of students” Successful organization by DAISSy-HOU of the Multiplier Event of the NEFELE project (13.02.2024, Patras-Greece)

logo-nefeleThe DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU) successfully organized the multiplier event on “Supporting the professional development of students”, which took place in person on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, in Patras (Hotel “Byzantino”). It is a dissemination event of the results of the “Neet prevention in Educational systems through positive Future vision Enhancing Learning and teacher Education-NEFELE” European project, currently undergoing by the DAISSy-HOU, as the Greek partner.

Specifically, the NEFELE project aims to empower teachers and career counsellors with the tools and knowledge for an integrated approach and for the enhancement of students’ careers. One of the project outcomes is the NEFELE educational model, which includes the NEFELE Massive Open Online Course-MOOC, the NEFELE digital game, an innovative game specifically designed for careers and the NEFELE platform which includes the above as well as the re-scripting by teachers.

This dissemination event was addressed to teachers preparing and working in the field, trainers of teachers, career counsellors, psychologists. It was open to all and had a good impact, attracting the interest of more than twenty-five (25) people from the target groups and areas of interest of the NEFELE project.

The sessions started by a welcome speech by Achilleas Kameas, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences of the Hellenic Open University and Director of DAISSy, and his presentation about the activities of the Research Group, putting emphasis on its vision and mission.

Subsequently, Vasiliki Takouli, Project Manager of DAISSy, presented the NEFELE project and analyzed its actions, objectives and results, as well as the specific role of DAISSy, which developed the NEFELE MOOC and the e-learning platform and worked intensively, so as to provide a modern educational tool that effectively serves the needs of teachers.

The speeches continued with Hara Kokkinou, Researcher at DAISSy, who presented in detail the content of the NEFELE MOOC, analyzing the way of creating and thinking behind the desired profile as well as its objective.

This was followed by a presentation by Rizos Chaliabalias, Researcher at DAISSy, on the NEFELE BOX digital game for the training of candidates, one of the project’s outputs. After this presentation, the teachers played the game and tried to create their own scenarios, under the guidance of Mr. Chaliabalias.

Emphasis was put on the interconnection of the NEFELE with the Lead-Online, a related European project that is also being implemented by DAISSy-HOU as a partner, which was presented by Konstantinos Potsis, Project Manager and Researcher of DAISSy, who analyzed its content.

The NEFELE multiplier event was concluded with a reflection on the action and a fruitful discussion on the introduction of the respective educational model in schools and its benefits for both the teachers and the students. The atmosphere was pleasant and the comments were positive, for the implementation of such projects and the willingness to actively participate in future initiatives of this kind.

The DAISSy-HOU presented the Mu.SA project outcomes at the International Conference on “DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION IN MUSEUMS: CHALLENGES, ACHIEVEMENTS, IDEAS”

Undoubtedly, the modern museum has become a center of education, communication, cultural information and creative innovation – a hub where intellectual leisure combines elements of entertainment content. It also reflects the key trends in the development of modern society.

The international conference on DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION IN MUSEUMS: CHALLENGES, ACHIEVEMENTS, IDEAS, organized and held online by the French company Trend and training, was implemented on February 12, 2024. It brought together directors, curators and managers of international cultural institutions to discuss issues related to the digital transformation of museums. The DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU), sharing valuable experience in the digital transformation of the cultural sector, participated in the high-scale event and was represented by Mrs. Panagiota Polymeropoulou, Senior Researcher of DAISSy, as an invited speaker, delivering a presentation on the “Museum Sector Alliance-Mu.SA” project outcomes, with a focus on crucial digital skills for professionals in the museum sector.

The conference offered a unique opportunity for participants to enhance their visibility, showcase their research findings, and gain insights from leading representatives of the museum community.

GREELCO webinar

The GREELCO webinar developed by DAISSy-HOU within the “Green Learning Community” project is accessible through the GREELCO platform!

The DAISSy Research Group of Hellenic Open University (HOU) announces the launch of the GREELCO webinar, which has been developed within the framework of the “Green Learning Community (GREELCO)” European project, currently undergoing by DAISSy-HOU as the Greek partner.

The GREELCO Webinar is developed to meet the needs of kindergarten teachers, educators, preschool managers, and Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) professionals throughout Europe. The Webinar equips participants with essential knowledge, guidelines, and technical instructions for developing pedagogical practice videos in their kindergartens.

It regards a two-hour training video that stems from the content covered in the three-day (twenty-four pedagogical hours) online training called “Training on digital content production,” organized by the DAISSy Research Group at Hellenic Open University (HOU). The webinar, edited by Elisabeth Pirounia, Video Producer and Editor of DAISSy, covers various topics, including:

  1. Inspiring ECEC Practice in Videos, led by trainers Petra Zgonec, Mateja Mlinar, and Petra Bozovičar, Researchers at the Educational Research Institute (ERI), project coordinator.
  2. Quality Informed ECEC Practices, facilitated by Aljosa Rudas, ISSA Program Manager at the International Step by Step Association (ISSA), project partner.
  3. Theory and practical application of editing tools in video production, presented by Elisabeth Pirounia, Video Producer and Editor of DAISSy-HOU, project partner.

The GREELCO Webinar is open to all and can be accessed through the GREELCO platform upon registration. The platform is easily accessible, open for all and serves as an online communication and collaboration tool that connects Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) professionals across Europe.

The GREELCO is a two-year project, co-funded by the ERASMUS+/ KA220-HED programme of the European Union. Its consortium includes three (3) main partners from three (3) EU member-states, namely the: Educational Research Institute-ERI (Slovenia), the International Step by Step Association-ISSA (Netherlands), and the Hellenic Open University-HOU (Greece). In addition, it involves eight (8) Kindergartens, from eight (8) European countries, namely the: Elmer (Belgium), Kindergarten Šestajovice (Czech Republic), Tartu Lasteaed Pääsupesa (Estonia), Pitypangos Közösségért Alapítvány (Hungary), JUODG Femo Kulakov (Republic of North Macedonia), Granidita CU Program Prelungit nr.22 Botosani (Romania), Vrtec Bled (Slovenia), Predskolska Ustanova “Cukarica”(Serbia). The DAISSy Research Group of the HOU, the Greek partner, is involved in all project deliverables, having the responsibility for the design, the development and the effective operation of the GRRELCO platform ensuring active collaboration of the participants and providing technical support (whenever needed).

DAISSy-HOU participated in the 2nd Transnational Partners’ Meeting of the European Project ‘SEER’ in Brussels, Belgium

logo-seerSpecifically, the goal of the SEER project is to create a roadmap that will contribute to the implementation of integrated STE(A)M education in Europe. This is expected to be achieved through an examination of the current state of STE(A)M education in Europe, based on the existing practices and policies. Additionally, the Scientix platform will be used as a tool to this attempt, as well, as it is designed to cater to the needs of the corresponding educators, highlighting deficiencies and gaps of education.

The 2nd TPM proved to be extremely successful, providing partners with the opportunity to exchange views on the current status and achievements of the project so far. The main focus of the discussions was the expansion and modernization of STE(A)M courses to respond to the reality and challenges of the new age.

All partners of the SEER project participated in the meeting and specifically DAISSy Research Group was represented by Mr. Achilles Kameas, Professor at HOU and Director of DAISSy, as well as Ms. Natalia Spyropoulou, Project Manager and Researcher at DAISSy. The main focus of the proceedings was the update on the progress of the implementation of the project deliverables by each respective partner. The topics that were discussed in depth were the design of SEER’s research activities, the results achieved up to date, as well as the ways to create assessment and certification tools, which are included in the project’s deliverables. In addition, future project actions were defined, such as seminars, working meetings, and presentations. Furthermore, aspects related to the creation of the roadmap were analyzed, aiming at the completion of STE(A)M education.

The 2nd Transnational Meeting of the SEER project partners was successful, fostering teamwork, lively exchange of ideas, and agreement on the next steps for project implementation.

The SEER project is a three-year initiative co-funded by the European Union’s HORIZON program. It is implemented through a consortium with six (6) partners in six (6) European countries (Belgium, Greece, Italy, Cyprus, Germany, Netherlands), with DAISSy-HOU as the Greek partner participating in all project deliverables and being responsible for the analysis of needs and impacts on STEAM education.

Completion of the Massive Open Online Course of the CLIP project on “Critical Visual Media Literacy and Fluency”

CLIP-logoThe Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on “Critical Visual Media Literacy and Fluency“, offered in the framework of the European co-funded project «Critical visual media Literacy and empowerment» (CLIP), currently undergoing by the DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU) as the Greek partner, was successfully completed.

MOOC participants gained valuable insights into the world of visual media and its impact on society. In addition, they developed the ability to detect images and recognize stereotypes in visual artifacts, and also learned to navigate the visual landscape, discerning the credibility of the pictures they come across in their daily lives.

In particular, the MOOC of the CLIP project:

Was provided in English, through the CLIP online educational platform of the project developed by DAISSy-HOU, and offered free of charge.

Had a total duration of fifty (50) hours and included four (4) Modules, as follows:

  • Module 1: CRITICAL LOOKING
  • Module 2: RETHINK YOUR EYE
  • Module 3: DECODING VISUAL MEANING
  • Module 4: PRESERVING THE PAST

Was finalized with success, whereas one hundred and nineteen (119) participants received a Certificate of Completion.

The main objective of the CLIP project is to strengthen digital capabilities of the Higher Education sector and to increase resilience to manipulation and polarisation working on the important issue of critical visual literacy, which is a fundamental component of the way european students and citizens are getting informed in the digital era.

The CLIP is an eighteen-month (18) project co-funded by the ERASMUS+/KA220-HED – Cooperation partnerships in Higher Education Programme of the European Union.
