OpenEDU4ALL organized by ICORE and MOOQ have launched the Open Call for Papers: “We welcome and encourage all researchers and practitioners to submit their papers for the OpenEDU4ALL Workshop until 20th of June 2017“, underlines Christian M. Stracke, OpenEDU4ALL organizer and ICDE Chair in OER from the Open University of the Netherlands. ICORE and MOOQ are joining forces again and inviting to the OpenEDU4ALL Workshop 2017. It is an interactive workshop on “Open Education for All” continuing the successful workshop from last year: OpenEDU4ALL 2017 will take place at the European Conference EC-TEL on Wednesday, 13th of September 2017 in Tallinn, Estonia.

All submitted papers will go through a double-blind peer review and selected papers will be presented in the OpenEDU4ALL Workshop and published in the OpenEDU4ALL proceedings as special issue of CEUR series with gold Open Access, ISBN, unique identifier and indexing.
The interactive OpenEDU4ALL Workshop 2017 is dedicated for sharing and discussing the latest research as well as practical needs and future of Open Education and how to improve it with openness for all. Thus, it is designed in two sessions: One on “Scientific research and policies for Open Education” and one on “Practical needs and future of Open Education”.
The first session “Scientific research and policies for Open Education” will combine short introductory input speeches from ICORE, UNESCO IITE, OEC and CC as leading organizations supporting OpenEDU4ALL 2017 followed by the presentation of the selected scientific papers. Main goal of the first session is the development of a declaration on Open Education for All that will be elaborated in working groups based on the presentations as well as the results from an online survey for all participants of OpenEDU4ALL.
The second session “Practical needs and future of Open Education” will focus quality dimensions and indicators required for Open Education for All. OpenEDU4ALL participants will elaborate them in the format of an interactive World Café and with the involvement of input from a live twitter stream.
Registration for OpenEDU4ALL 2017 is mandatory as seats are limited: It is free and open for all EC-TEL 2017 conference participants and interested experts and practitioners. The vision and overall objective of OpenEDU4ALL is the launch of a global joint initiative to facilitate and improve Open Education. An important milestone would be the re-establishment of openness as default as in the 60ies years of the 20th century: Supported by UNESCO IITE, OEC and other organizations from Open Education, ICORE, the International Community for Open Research and Education (www.ICORE-online.org) and MOOQ, the European initiative for the quality of MOOCs and Open Education (www.mooc-quality.eu) are inviting all interested citizens and organizations worldwide sharing this vision to join forces.

Designing and implementing collaborative learning with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a challenge for both novel and experienced teachers in face to face and online contexts. It requires a good understanding of social learning and hands on experience. This course offers a pragmatic approach to the use of ICT tools for supporting Collaborative Learning in everyday teaching practice. The course introduces well-known Collaborative Learning techniques as well as a web-based community environment for facilitating the design and enactment of those techniques using widely-used technological tools (Virtual Learning Environments such as Moodle, web 2.0 tools as Google Drive, etc.).
- To know and apply well-known strategies for structuring Collaborative Learning situations.
- To design “non-trivial” Collaborative Learning situations with the help of purpose-specific ICT tools.
- Beyond the use of a discussion forum or the collaborative writing of reports).
- Design support tool: INTEGRATED LEARNING DESIGN ENVIRONMENT (ILDE)
- To implement (and test) Collaborative Learning situations using existing ICT tools.
- Virtual Learning Environments (e.g., Moodle).
- Web 2.0 tools (e.g., Google Drive).
- To reflect and discuss about the barriers and emerging problems that arise when trying to apply Collaborative Learning strategies using ICT tools.
The course is offered in both Spanish and English.
Target Audience: The course is especially aimed at innovative Secondary and Higher Education teachers (both in-service and pre-service). International Conference on Interactive Mobile Communication, Technologies and Learning

The 11th International Conference on Interactive Mobile Communication Technologies and Learning, IMCL2017, is part of an international initiative to promote technology-enhanced learning and online engineering world-wide.
The IMCL2017 conference will cover all aspects of mobile learning as well as the emergence of mobile communication technologies, infrastructures and services and their implications for education, business, governments and society.
The IMCL2017 actually aims to promote the development of mobile learning, to provide a forum for education and knowledge transfer, to expose students to latest ICT technologies and encourage the study and implementation of mobile applications in teaching and learning.

Workshop on Advances on Digital Cultural Heritage

In recent years, the use of digital approaches has seen rapid progress in many different areas, including cultural heritage applications. The goal of this unique workshop is to present a selection of recent advances, some of which are already used in the cultural heritage domain while others have a high potential for it. Therefore, the selected papers will take into account how these current novel digital technologies, particularly on the 3D documentation in Cultural Heritage will a) raise awareness in society for the documentation and protection of tangible CH assets, b) reach professionals in the area of standardisation, c) propose new efficient methods for the use and re-use of 3D data, d) recommend new metadata and semantics’ for the holistic documentation of 3D assets; e) promote intercultural and interdisciplinary cooperation; f) offer new methods and systems for the archiving of 3D assets in CH and g) support with link data and new ontologies a more efficient multimodal documentation.
Expected contributions include technical papers (presenting recent advances on Digital Cultural Heritage) and project papers (describing Digital Cultural Heritage major outcomes).
Selected and presented papers will be published as a chapter in a Springer-Nature book (Advances on Digital Cultural Heritage) reflecting the breakthroughs and future perspectives of Digital Cultural Heritage. The book and all the papers will be indexed in the ISI Citation Index, Scopus, EI Engineering Index, Google Scholar, DBLP, etc.

The importance of Artificial Intelligence is underlined by the fact that it is nowadays being embraced by a vast majority of research fields across different disciplines, from Engineering Sciences to Economics and Medicine, as a means to tackle highly complicated and challenging computational as well as cognitive problems. Being one of the main streams of information processing, Artificial Intelligence may now offer solutions to such problems using advances and innovations from a wide range of sub-areas that induce thinking and reasoning in models and systems.
The general focus of the conference is to present different perspectives on how Artificial Intelligence may be applied and offer solutions to real world problems, serving the study, analysis and modelling of theoretical and practical issues. The primary target of AIAI 2017 is to present highly novel research papers describing innovative algorithms, systems, tools and techniques, as well as proposing advanced prototypes in the area of Artificial Intelligence. General survey papers indicating future directions and professional work-in-progress reports are of equal interest. Acceptance will be based on quality, originality and practical merit of the work.
Authors are invited to submit original research contributions or experience reports. Submitted papers must present unpublished work, not being considered for publication in other journals or conferences.

PLUGGY is organizing the Workshop “Plug into Cultural Heritage” as part of the 9th International Conference on Intelligent Technologies for Interactive Entertainment – INTETAIN 2017 that will be held in June 20–22, 2017 in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal.
About the workshop:
What is cultural heritage? How can society become more actively involved in cultural heritage activities, not only as an observer but also as a contributor to the definition of heritage? Cultural heritage is considered an important precondition for genuine sustainability. However, existing applications for heritage dissemination do not really create heritage communities. Adequate ICT tools are necessary to support citizens in their everyday activities in shaping cultural heritage and be shaped by it. Social platforms offer potential to build such networks, but can be further exploited for heritage promotion. Technology could help better in providing a seamless integration of cultural heritage in people’s everyday life.
The Workshop “Plug into Cultural Heritage” aims to bridge this gap by exploring on necessary tools and challenges to allow citizens to share and obtain local heritage knowledge.
We invite contributions relevant to cultural heritage (tangible, intangible and natural) such as literature studies, user studies, design concepts and position papers. Topics include but are not limited to:
- Technology design and evaluations incl. augmented and visual reality, collaborative games, locative multimedia and mobile HCI in general;
- Opportunities and challenges for community involvement incl. special interest groups such as the elderly and migrant communities;
- The role of current social media in cultural heritage awareness.

On 9-10 March, 2017, 58 participants gathered in Brussels for the Telecentre Europe’s seventh General Assembly, followed by a more informal membership meeting.
During the formal part, the representatives of 35 member organizations voted on approval of the 2016 Report and budget, as well as the Action plan and budget for 2017. The new Board was elected for the next 2 years (see more about it here); and the new network members were presented.

After the formal parts of the General Assembly, a more informal membership meeting was held, during which the delegates were updated on Telecentre Europe’s projects and programmes and had a chance to network, discuss certain topics, and share their opinions.
During the first session, delegates learned about the results of the annual members’ survey, got introduced to the strategy renewal and the rebranding plan. The rebranding plan was met with great enthusiasm, as, according to members, it reflects well the challenges of the times and the organisation’s role in digital empowerment and transformation. You will hear more about it in the coming months.
Other sessions included the presentations of the annual awards; next annual conference, which will be held in Barcelona in October 2017; new re-launched Study Visits programme for member organisations; and the overview of the Telecentre Europe’s flagship Get Online Week campaign, during which National Partners talked about the benefits of the campaign for their communities and organisations and shared their strategies and tips on creating partnerships and engaging users.
Delegates also had the opportunity to engage in thematic discussions with other members sharing similar interest in exploring or specializing in one of the topics: Employability, STEM awareness raising and training, Basic Digital Skills, Coding, and Digital Media Literacy. The topics were chosen based on the clustering survey conducted before the meeting. The purpose of the clustering is to provide better understanding of members’ expertise and hence allow more effective, tailored communication to members and targeted services.
On the second day, the delegates took part in two workshops, each based on the collaboration of Telecentre Europe member organisations: CodeMob and Youth e-Perspectives (YeP).
At the CodeMob validation workshop, the project partners presented the methodology and curricula for the 2 courses: on coding and on the effective use of mobile devices. The CodeMob project is aimed at improving the training capacity of telecentres by developing two courses and preparing e-facilitators who will further train end users in the four participating countries. The ultimate goal is with the training to enhance skills of unemployed youth and thus increase their employability.
The session was moderated by Telecentre Europe and Technical University of Dortmund with the support of project partners. Interface3 (Belgium) and Telecentar (Croatia) presented the coding course; ComNet (Hungary) and El Teb (Spain) – the course on mobile devices. After the presentations, the methodology and the curriculum were discussed and validated by the participants. The project is not finished, and now the partners are preparing the Do It Yourself toolkit for organisations who would want to use these curricula in their language and context. As stands from the name, it will contain guidelines on how to localize the training curricula, present tips and tricks on promotion and attracting the users, so stay tuned.
The other workshop was devoted to the YeP project, which targets young people and teaches them how to use digital media to address important societal issues, such as the refugee crisis and migration. The objective of the workshop was to disseminate the project’s main outputs: the “Find-Tell-Act” methodology and the Guidelines, designed for other organisations, which want to apply the methodology in their work with young people.
All four project partners played an active part in the workshop: Telecentre Europe moderated the session, MAKS vzw from Belgium explained the methodology and training, El Teb from Spain presented the online platform and the blog, and Telecentar from Croatia facilitated the discussion.
However, the main actors of the workshop were the young people from Spain and Belgium, who had taken part in the training and shared their experiences of the project explaining how the project enhanced their skills and changed their outlook on life in general and migrants in particular. They have presented their own and their peers’ moving digital stories of refugees and migrants, which were created as a result of the training and touched the hearts of the audience. It was a credible proof of the importance of such projects in fostering tolerance and empowering young people to be active citizens and to search for solutions.
Both workshops presented opportunities for questions from the audience, discussions on the presented methodologies, their benefits and challenges while deploying in other countries, and further dissemination efforts. All the details will be available on the projects’ websites.

Το 2ο Σχολείο του Προγράμματος Μεταπτυχιακών Σπουδών «ΣΔΥ – Συστήματα Κινητού και Διάχυτου Υπολογισμού» του Ελληνικού Ανοικτού Πανεπιστημίου θα βοηθήσει τους συμμετέχοντες να εμβαθύνουν στις τεχνολογίες του Διαδικτύου των Πραγμάτων (Internet of Things) και στις εφαρμογές του Κινητού και Διάχυτου Υπολογισμού στην Εκπαίδευση (STEM education).
