DAISSy-HOU announces the second round of the NEFELE MOOC: Registration is open to join in!

logo-nefeleThe DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (Hellenic Open University) announces a second round of implementation of the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on “Promoting the professional development of students in school”, which is part of the European project “Neet prevention in Educational systems through positive Future vision Enhancing Learning and teacher Education-NEFELE”, currently undergoing by DAISSy-HOU, as the Greek partner. It is a modern MOOC, aimed at training teachers in their critical role of supporting the professional development of students. The first round of the MOOC implementation was completed with success; the same MOOC is launched once again, so that to respond to the interest of those who missed the opportunity to join in it, in the recent past.

Specifically, the MOOC includes four (4) training modules based on the theoretical framework of career development and positive psychology, linked to practical examples for teachers, so that they can promote career planning for their students in the classroom. It also has one (1) educational module based on NEFELE BOX, which is the toolkit for the tangible user interface that the teacher can utilize with the students, supporting the design of their future career path. It is interspersed with videos, presentations and reading material as well as short quizzes (at the end of each module) so that learners can assess their progress.

In particular, the e-learning platform of the NEFELE project is designed and developed in English, Italian, Greek, Spanish and Dutch. It fosters collaboration and exchange among the participants, as it includes forums and discussion areas. The MOOC learning content in English [e.g. Open Education Resources (OERs), lectures, video scripts, presentations] was collected, developed and based on this, the MOOC videos were created. It is noteworthy that the learning materials, classified into modules, are available in five (5) languages under the NEFELE project partnership scheme.

Upon successful completion of the MOOC, participants will learn about:

  • Current and future challenges related to the world of work
  • Main aspects and main theories of career development from childhood to adolescence
  • How the teacher can support the career development and well-being of students in the school environment
  • Main positive psychology theories of well-being
  • Ways of positive education intervention in the school environment
  • Tangible user interfaces
  • Digital career narrative
  • Use of the NEFELE Box to promote career development and wellbeing in the classroom

It is worth noting that:

  • The new round of the NEFELE MOOC starts on Μarch 20, 2024, has a five(5)-week duration and ends on April 24, 2024.
  • The deadline for registration is March 17, 2024.
  • Participants who successfully complete the MOOC will receive a Certificate of Completion
  • It is provided free of charge to any interested party, internationally.
  • Registration is pre-required and can be done by submitting an application form at the following link.

“Supporting the professional development of students” Successful organization by DAISSy-HOU of the Multiplier Event of the NEFELE project (13.02.2024, Patras-Greece)

logo-nefeleThe DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU) successfully organized the multiplier event on “Supporting the professional development of students”, which took place in person on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, in Patras (Hotel “Byzantino”). It is a dissemination event of the results of the “Neet prevention in Educational systems through positive Future vision Enhancing Learning and teacher Education-NEFELE” European project, currently undergoing by the DAISSy-HOU, as the Greek partner.

Specifically, the NEFELE project aims to empower teachers and career counsellors with the tools and knowledge for an integrated approach and for the enhancement of students’ careers. One of the project outcomes is the NEFELE educational model, which includes the NEFELE Massive Open Online Course-MOOC, the NEFELE digital game, an innovative game specifically designed for careers and the NEFELE platform which includes the above as well as the re-scripting by teachers.

This dissemination event was addressed to teachers preparing and working in the field, trainers of teachers, career counsellors, psychologists. It was open to all and had a good impact, attracting the interest of more than twenty-five (25) people from the target groups and areas of interest of the NEFELE project.

The sessions started by a welcome speech by Achilleas Kameas, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences of the Hellenic Open University and Director of DAISSy, and his presentation about the activities of the Research Group, putting emphasis on its vision and mission.

Subsequently, Vasiliki Takouli, Project Manager of DAISSy, presented the NEFELE project and analyzed its actions, objectives and results, as well as the specific role of DAISSy, which developed the NEFELE MOOC and the e-learning platform and worked intensively, so as to provide a modern educational tool that effectively serves the needs of teachers.

The speeches continued with Hara Kokkinou, Researcher at DAISSy, who presented in detail the content of the NEFELE MOOC, analyzing the way of creating and thinking behind the desired profile as well as its objective.

This was followed by a presentation by Rizos Chaliabalias, Researcher at DAISSy, on the NEFELE BOX digital game for the training of candidates, one of the project’s outputs. After this presentation, the teachers played the game and tried to create their own scenarios, under the guidance of Mr. Chaliabalias.

Emphasis was put on the interconnection of the NEFELE with the Lead-Online, a related European project that is also being implemented by DAISSy-HOU as a partner, which was presented by Konstantinos Potsis, Project Manager and Researcher of DAISSy, who analyzed its content.

The NEFELE multiplier event was concluded with a reflection on the action and a fruitful discussion on the introduction of the respective educational model in schools and its benefits for both the teachers and the students. The atmosphere was pleasant and the comments were positive, for the implementation of such projects and the willingness to actively participate in future initiatives of this kind.

DAISSy-HOU actively participated in the 4th Transnational Partners’ Meeting of the “NEFELE” EU Project in Maastricht (Netherlands)

On 19th and 20th September 2023, the “European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU)” hosted the fourth Transnational Partners’ Meeting (TPM) of the “NEFELE-NEET prevention in Educational systems through positive Future vision Enhancing Learning and teacher Education” EU project, that took place in Maastricht (Netherlands).

The TPM was attended in presence by representatives of the partners i.e. the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU), the Hellenic Open University (HOU), the University of Naples Federico II (UNINA), the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland, (SUPSI) and SMARTED (SM).

The NEFELE project aims at modelling innovative methodologies for middle school pre-service teachers that can support adolescents’ career construction and a positive vision of the future. Specifically, NEFELE provides curricular frameworks based on career development and positive psychology through tools (such as Massive Open Online Course-MOOC, digital game and OER Shared Platform), in order to orient teachers’ supportive behaviours.

On the first TPM day, the sessions started by focusing on the state of the art and open issues of the NEFELE MOOC. Specifically, the partnership discussed the certification process of the MOOC, which is developed under the responsibility of the DAISSy Research Group of the HOU, being the Greek project partner. DAISSy-HOU participated in the TPM and was represented by Achilles Kameas, HOU Professor, Director of DAISSy, Vasiliki Takouli, Project Manager and Administrator of DAISSy, as well as Rizos Chaliabalias, Senior researcher of DAISSy.

Emphasis was put to the presentation of the final version of the MOOC, delivered by Vasiliki Takouli, who explained in detail its content, the way of operation and the benefits for the trainees and the tutors. More precisely, the MOOC units cover the following topics: current threats and challenges of the labour market, competences needed for career transitions, career development and the role of teachers in students’ career transition, positive psychology and the use of technologies and tangible user interfaces in the educational context.

Then, the SMARTED project partner presented the gamification approach of the NEFELE game and explained the steps for creating scenarios and the game to be useful in the classroom to enhance adolescent career exploration.

On the second TPM day, the meeting focused on the NEFELE OERs (Open Educational Resources) shared platform, the project deliverable scheduled in these months. The main idea is to create a WebApp on career guidance to promote career decisions in students and help other people (teachers, parents, career practitioners) find helpful information on career paths, to support adolescents.

DAISSy-HOU hosted and actively participated in the 3rd Transnational Partners’ Meeting of the “NEFELE” EU Project in Athens (Greece)

logo-nefeleOn 16th and 17th February 2023, the Hellenic Open University (HOU) hosted the third Transnational Partners’ Meeting (TPM) of the “NEFELE-NEET prevention in Educational systems through positive Future vision Enhancing Learning and teacher Education” EU project, that took place at its headquarters-antenna, in Athens (Greece) and also provided the possibility for online participation.

More precisely, the meeting was attended in presence by the representatives of the following project partners:  the Hellenic Open University-HOU (Greece), the University of Naples Federico II- UNINA (Italy), the University of Valencia-UVEG (Spain), the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland-SUPSI (Switzerland) and Smarted-SM (Italy), while the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities-EADTU (Netherlands) participated online.

NEFELE project aims at modelling innovative methodologies for pre-service teachers of middle schools that can be useful to support adolescents’ career construction and a positive vision of the future. Specifically, NEFELE provides curricular frameworks, based on career development and positive psychology through tools (MOOC, digital game and OER Shared Platform) to orient teachers’ supportive behaviours.

On the first TPM day, the Partnership recorded the introduction to the modules of the NEFELE Massive Open Online Course-MOOC. The MOOC will consist of five (5) modules based on the NEFELE framework (for more information, please refer to: https://zenodo.org/record/7553717#.ZAX1sy2h0dU). Then, additional recording of the Introduction of specific modules was completed per partner, accordingly: for Module 1 “World of work challenges and students’ career development” by UNINA, for Module 2 “Supporting students’ career development” by SUPSI, for Module 3 “Students’ well-being” by UVEG, and finally for Module 4 “Innovative teaching-learning practices” and Module 5 “The NEFELE Box” by SM.

Moreover, audio tracks were also recorded to be implemented in the NEFELE digital game, in order to used by middle school teachers for promoting the career exploration. The audios contain information about the resources and the competences needed by adolescents for the career decision-making process. The audios were recorded by the Partners in English (SM), Italian (UNINA), French (SUPSI), Spanish (UVEG) and Greek (HOU) and will be at the disposal of teachers, as a guide for curricular programs on career exploration in middle schools.

On the second TPM day, the meeting focused on the state of the art and pending issues of the two project deliverables to be developed within the upcoming months i.e. the NEFELE MOOC and the NEFELE BOX.

The DAISSy Research Group of the HOU host of the 3rd TPM, is the leader of the design and development of the NEFELE MOOC. The Research Group was represented by Mrs Vasiliki Takouli, DAISSy’s Project Manager and Administrator as well as Mrs Vicky Maratou, DAISSy’s Project Manager and Senior researcher, who presented the first version of the MOOC platform and analysed the topics to be covered by the various units, namely: ¡current threats and challenges of labour market ¡ competences needed for career transitions ¡career development and the role of teachers in students’ career transition ¡ positive psychology and the use of technologies and tangible user interfaces in the educational context.

Accordingly, the Smarted-SM presented the gamification approach of the NEFELE BOX. It is noteworthy, that teachers will be involved in creating game scenarios within the NEFELE multiplier events to be held in the forthcoming months in Italy, Spain and Greece.

The 3rd TPM was completed by a session dedicated to the presentation of the Dissemination Plan by EADTU and the vivid exchange among the partners about the next steps of the project implementation.

DAISSy participation in the second partner meeting and the first multiplier event of the NEFELE project

logo-nefeleOn June 6, 2022, the School of Psychology and Speech Therapy (Salón de Grados) in Spain hosted the second meeting of the NEFELE project partners – Neet prevention in Educational systems through positive Future vision Enhancing Learning and teacher Education. The meeting was attended live by partners from the University of Naples (UNINA), the University of Valencia (UVEG), the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) and members of the DAISSy research team of the Hellenic Open University (ΗOU) and start-up SMARTED SRL. Partners from EADTU University and also members of the DAISSy research team participated online.

The meeting started with an overview of the project and the work that is in progress or is expected to start in the near future. Afterwards, it was presented the effect of teachers as well as the importance of well-being on the professional development of adolescents. During the meeting the partners discussed, among other technical issues, the methodology of creating Tangible User Interfaces (TUIs-Tangible User Interfaces) and their utilization.

As the DAISSy Research Team of the Hellenic Open University will be the partner that will coordinate the development of the educational material and will technically support the creation of the educational videos, was presented by A. Kameas, Professor of EAP and Scientific Officer, material on how the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) can be developed and some example of previous MOOCs that has been created for other projects. The partners agreed on the value of the courses and discussed the design of the basic learning modules that will be developed during the program.

The meeting closed with the communication policy in terms of an effective dissemination of the project results and the optimization of the platform.

The next day, on June 7, the hybrid multiplier event of the project took place also, at the School of Psychology and Speech Therapy (Salón de Grados), where it was open to the public by registering on the respective website. At the event, basic information of the NEFELE project (framework, objectives, etc.) and its results so far were presented. Then a presentation was conducted on the role of teachers in the professional development of adolescents and how the method of Positive Psychology promotes well-being.

Finally, there was a presentation on the widespread use of Tangible User Interfaces (TUIs) and how they will be used in the project.

Press release of the NEFELE online inaugural meeting

logo-nefeleThe inaugural online meeting of the NEFELE project, co-financed by the European Commission Erasmus +, took place on 16 February 2022 in Naples, Italy. The DAISSy research team of the Hellenic Open University (http://daissy.eap.gr/en/) participates in the activities of the new project, which is co-financed by the Erasmus + 2021-2027 program.

Hosted by the University of Naples (Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II), 18 people participated in an online meeting, representing all project partners from Italy, Greece, Switzerland, Spain and the Netherlands.

The project meeting was dedicated to networking, project overview, questions about the administrative / financial aspects. It was fundamental for all partners, as it allowed for a common understanding of the project objectives, the validation of the work plan, a better clarification of each partner’s rules and responsibilities, and the definition of agreements and communication procedures.

NEFELE is a 30-month Erasmus + project (December 2021-May 2025), which aims to train high school teachers who can act to prevent NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) by supporting students in their development. skills and their professional identity.

The project includes the creation of a handbook that will contain an innovative framework for teachers which will include the Career Development Framework, the Positive Youth Development Framework and the TUIs (Tangible User Interfaces). This framework will be the basis for the development of MOOC, NEFELE BOX and the creation of Open Education Resources material that will be freely available on the NEFELE Platform. The last part of the MOOC will contain examples of using the NEFELE BOX.

The platform will share all the content of the project, as well as guidelines and good practices for professional teachers, policy recommendations and will allow the download of all content to those who will use the NEFELE training model.
