Completion of the Massive Open Online Course of the CLIP project on “Critical Visual Media Literacy and Fluency”

CLIP-logoThe Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on “Critical Visual Media Literacy and Fluency“, offered in the framework of the European co-funded project «Critical visual media Literacy and empowerment» (CLIP), currently undergoing by the DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU) as the Greek partner, was successfully completed.

MOOC participants gained valuable insights into the world of visual media and its impact on society. In addition, they developed the ability to detect images and recognize stereotypes in visual artifacts, and also learned to navigate the visual landscape, discerning the credibility of the pictures they come across in their daily lives.

In particular, the MOOC of the CLIP project:

Was provided in English, through the CLIP online educational platform of the project developed by DAISSy-HOU, and offered free of charge.

Had a total duration of fifty (50) hours and included four (4) Modules, as follows:

  • Module 1: CRITICAL LOOKING
  • Module 2: RETHINK YOUR EYE
  • Module 3: DECODING VISUAL MEANING
  • Module 4: PRESERVING THE PAST

Was finalized with success, whereas one hundred and nineteen (119) participants received a Certificate of Completion.

The main objective of the CLIP project is to strengthen digital capabilities of the Higher Education sector and to increase resilience to manipulation and polarisation working on the important issue of critical visual literacy, which is a fundamental component of the way european students and citizens are getting informed in the digital era.

The CLIP is an eighteen-month (18) project co-funded by the ERASMUS+/KA220-HED – Cooperation partnerships in Higher Education Programme of the European Union. It is coordinated by the UNIMED – Unione Delle Universita Del Mediterraneo (Italy) with Libera Universita Di Lingue e Comunicazione (Italy), ALL DIGITAL (Belgium), and the Hellenic Open University-DAISSy Research Group (Greece) as partners.

DAISSy-HOU invites you to join the international Community of Practice for STEAM courses in Special Education

logo-spiceThe “Special Education STEAM Academy- SpicE” European project is currently being undergoing by the DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU), aiming to enhance the skills of educators in the inclusive implementation of STEAM education in general education school settings. The project seeks to eliminate any obstacles or exclusions in equal access to STEAM learning and knowledge for all students. Additionally, the project aims to bring together educators interested in promoting educational change and policy changes in STEAM education for a more inclusive educational system.

In order to obtain the project’s goals a Community of Practice (CoP) has been developed, which is activated through a dynamic electronic platform and focuses on Special Education, Inclusive Education, STEAM Education, and Advanced Teacher Education.

In this context, the DAISSy Research Group of the HOU invites:

  • Prospective educators and general or special education related students
  • Αctive educators and trainers in general/special education at all levels and types of education
  • Directors or heads of educational organizations at all levels and types of education
  • Educational policy makers
  • Researchers in the field of special/ inclusive education, STEAM education or teachers’ education

to register and participate in the SpicE Community of Practice.

DAISSy-HOU organized and participated in the 2nd Transnational Partners’ Meeting of the “DigComp HUB” project, in Athens (Greece)

On November 23rd and 24th, 2023, the 2nd Transnational Partners’ Meeting (TPM) of the ‘DigComp HUB‘ European project took place, which was organized by the DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU), the Greek project partner, and was hosted at the educational institution’s facilities in Athens (Greece).

The DigComp HUB project aims to support and involve educators in the digital transformation of adult education in Europe, based on the widely accepted European DigComp Framework. In this context, the 2nd TPM served as a crucial milestone for the DigComp HUB project in the effort to develop digital skills necessary for every worker in the new professional landscape.

Indeed, the 2nd TPM was exceptionally successful, providing partners with the opportunity for in-depth discussions regarding the current status of the project and its smooth continuation. The common focal point of the discussions was the strong commitment of all partners to comprehensive adult education in the digital era and the expansion of the DigComp framework across Europe.

Specifically, there was extensive discussion on the professional development of adult educators, enabling them to transfer the necessary knowledge in a constantly evolving digital work environment. For this reason, particular emphasis was placed on the design of the educational program outlined in the context of DigComp Hub, targeting lifelong learning educators and providing training for partners who will participate as instructors in the program.

The DAISSy Research Group organized the 2nd TPM and was represented by Professor Achilles Kameas, Director of DAISSy, Ms. Natalia Spyropoulou, Project Manager and Researcher at DAISSy, Ms. Rozalia Kalantzi and Mr. Gerasimos Vonitsanos, also Researchers at DAISSy. They provided a detailed presentation on issues related to the design and implementation of the educational program of DigComp HUB, as well as the training program for educators, which are topics coordinated by the Research Group. Within this context, the digital environment for the course delivery, namely the ALL DIGITAL Academy educational platform, was introduced by its technical administrator, Mr. Anastasios Papadopoulos, Technician of DAISSy, who participated remotely. Subsequently, the session focused on guidance for educators, presented by Ms. Theodora Papageorgiou, guest speaker, who analyzed the training methodology and the role of the “mentor”.

The exchange of opinions among partners was intense, addressing, among other things, the planning of Education and Training activities, the development and expansion of the DigComp CoP (Community of Practice), and the actions for disseminating and promoting the project’s outcomes. The proceedings concluded with an agreement on the next steps for implementing the project.

The DigComp HUB is a two-year project, co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Program. It is implemented by a consortium of four (4) partners from three (3) EU member states (Belgium, Greece, and Italy), with the DAISSy Research Group of Hellenic Open University operating  as the Greek partner.

Invitation by DAISSy-HOU to the hybrid event on “Supporting the professional development of students”, of the NEFELE project

logo-nefeleThe DAISSy research group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU) invites you to take part in the multiplier event on “Supporting the professional development of students “, which takes place through a hybrid mode on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 18.00 (hotel “Byzantino”, Patras, Greece).

The event is addressed to pre-service and in-service teachers, teacher trainers, career consultants, psychologists and is open to all. Its main aim is the dissemination of the results of the European project “Neet prevention in Educational systems through positive Future vision Enhancing Learning and teacher Education-NEFELE” European project, currently undergoing by the DAISSy-HOU, as the Greek partner. It emphasizes on the introduction and the familiarization with the NEFELE educational model, which is designed so as to empower teachers and career counsellors with the tools and knowledge for an integrated approach and for the enhancement of students’ careers.

As a result, the participants of the multiplier event will be able to explore the NEFELE Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) and immerse themselves in deep learning. They will also have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the NEFELE digital game, an innovative game specifically designed for careers.

NEFELE is a thirty-month project (1st December 2021-31st May 2024), funded by the Erasmus+ EU programme and implemented by a consortium of six (6) partners from five (5) countries (Spain, Italy, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Greece), with DAISSy-HOU as the Greek partner. The Research Group is responsible for the development of the MOOC and the e-learning platform – it shares a longterm experience in MOOC development and it has been working intensively, so that to provide a modern educational tool for fulfilling the needs of teachers, effectively.

DAISSy-HOU announces the Training Course on “Blended Learning: Education of Tomorrow, Today” within the InnStation project

Innovation Station -logoThe DAISSy research group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU) invites secondary school teachers of all disciplines to take part in the Training Course (TC) on “Blended Learning: Education of Tomorrow, Today”, which is provided within the framework of the Innovation Station – A New Approach to Online and Blended Learning (InnStation)” European project, currently under implementation by DAISSy as the Greek partner.

The aim of the TC is to train educators in updated good practices from the European context. Specifically, it offers hands-on experience in applying blended learning techniques in the classroom, so as to help teachers to develop their own blended learning strategies and to design digital materials as well as supportive face-to-face lessons, by utilizing tools such as software, applications, and platforms.

The training course is structured as a workshop, with a maximum number of twenty-five (25) participants.

Key information regarding the TC is the following:

  • It starts on February 12, 2024 and ends on March 8, 2024.
  • It is based on the blended learning model, having a thirty-hour duration, in total and it includes asynchronous remote training (24 hours) and face-to-face training (6 hours) through a workshop.
  • The asynchronous remote training is provided through the LAMS electronic platform.
  • It is offered free of charge, and upon completion, the trainees receive the corresponding Certificate of Participation, signed by the Hellenic Open University.
  • It requires the submission of an expression of interest form, here. The deadline is February 8, 2024 and priority is given on a first-come, first-served basis for filling the twenty-five available seats.

The Training Course is provided within the “Innovation Station [InnStation] – A new approach to online and blended learning” European project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union. “InnStation” project is implemented by a consortium of five (5) partners from five (5) European countries (Greece, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland), with DAISSy-HOU as the partner in Greece, aiming to enhance the digital skills of educators through the provision of resources and educational material.

Info Day on “#Hate Out!: Building social resilience against online hate” by DAISSy-HOU, within the LEAD-Online project

lead-online-logoThe DAISSy research group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU) invites to the info day on “#Hate Out!: Building social resilience against online hate”, to be organized within the framework of the implementation of the LEAD-Online: Learn, Engage, Act: Digital Tools to Prevent and Counter Hate Speech Online European project, currently undergoing by DAISSy-HOU as the Greek partner. The activity takes place on Monday 29th January 2024 at 9.00’, in Ioannina, Greece (Skini 125-Theatriki Sympaignia, Leoforos Archiepiskopou Makariou 11, inside KE.PA.VI. 124/125).

Specifically, the event is addressed to teachers, students, representatives of the civil society, journalists, social media activists and any individual or organisation that wishes and is capable of activating in preventing and combating hate speech online. It examines hate speech as a social phenomenon and the ways of countering it in its online version.

This is why, the info day focuses on presenting the innovative digital tools i.e. Hate Out! Game and Hate Speech Self-Assessment Tool, which have been developed under the responsibility of DAISSy-HOU within the framework of the LEAD-Online project. They cope with the increase of awareness in relation to the level of conscious or unconscious use of hate speech online as well as with the education in relation to ways of reporting it, countering it and supporting victims.

This info day is the third activity within the “LEAD-Online Talks” series of project events, which aim at raising awareness on the phenomenon of hate speech online as well as educating young people (and not only), accordingly.

It is noteworthy, that the LEAD-Online project emphasizes on the need to strengthen the critical thinking and the digital skills of young people that seem to be causally related to the low level of reporting and the “normalization” of Hate Speech online. Specifically, the project aims at empowering young people, educators, civil society representatives, media and social media activists to become active agents of change. This will be achieved by training them, so that they recognise hate speech as well as persistent forms of intolerance, prejudice and discrimination, using a human rights-based approach. By exploring innovative digital tools provided by the LEAD-Online project, they will be able to classify, decode and consequently respond to Hate Speech online, and at the same time they will expand their opportunities by discussing the phenomenon, promoting attitudes and behaviours that respect human rights and values.

DAISSy-HOU announces the final Multiplier Event of the DigiPath project

logo-digipathThe DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU) invites to the final Multiplier Event of the DigiPath – Digital Education Readiness for VET Teachers through Tool Assisted Learning Pathways European project, currently undergoing by DAISSy, as the Greek partner. The activity takes place online on Wednesday 31st January 2024 from 15.00’ to 19.00’, and is organized by the project coordinator Academy for Vocational Education in Dresden (Germany), marking the closure of the DigiPath project.

Specifically, the event is addressed to media educators and pedagogical information technology (IT) consultants, human resources (HR) development professionals from schools all over Europe, and other stakeholders, such as representatives of the Ministry of Education sector as well as of teacher education field  and training institutions. It provides a favorable basis for presenting the key findings of the DigiPath, sharing the experience of implementing the project pilots and offering inspiration on how to create practical workshops for teachers on using digital tools within their class.

More precisely:

  • Participation is free of charge
  • Seats are limited and need to be reserved in advance
  • Registration is a pre-requisite, is open until 19th January 2024, by submitting the respective registration form
  • The virtual event takes place in the town electronic platform, access to which will be provided via e-mail, as declared within the registration form.

The DigiPath’s aim is to build VET teachers’ Digital Education Readiness (DER), by developing an Open Education Resource (OER) in the form of a blended learning course, incorporating Learning Paths for learners with varied levels of digital readiness and skills. DigiPath produces lightweight educational offers that can be seamlessly integrated into the daily routine of VET teachers, taking into account their specific work setting.

The project is implemented by a consortium of six (6) partners representing six (6) European countries (Greece, Germany, Lithuania, Italy, Portugal, Spain). The DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University, the Greek partner, participates in all deliverables of the DigiPath project and is responsible for the development of the DigiPath electronic learning platform.
