The CrAL platform of the project Creative Audiovisual Lab for the promotion of critical thinking and media literacy, which is designed and developed by the DAISSy Reserach Group of HOU is ready!

The DAISSy Reserach Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU) has already designed and developed the online interative CrAL platform of  the EU project Creative Audiovisual Lab for the promotion of critical thinking and media literacy.

The innovative platform rises to the challenge of engaging the educational and local communities of the five participating countries (Belgium, Italy, Spain, Greece, Croatia and Lithuania) in an exciting, experimental learning experience aiming to foster critical thinking, active citizenship and media literacy among learners, parents and educational staff. The main objective of the platform is to support:

  • An Online training Course for teachers and trainers: The modules of the massive Open Course (MOOC) have started being uploaded on the CrAL online platform. Thanks to the intensive cooperation of the project partners, all the educational content of the MOOC is translated into all languages of the participating countries.
  • A Showcase of the audiovisual materials: The Showcase will be developed during the implementation phase of the project and it will contain the audiovisual material (videos, short films, interviews etc.) produced by young people during the pilot action.
  • The establishment of the online Community of Practice. The Virtual International Community of Practice is technically supported by the platform. It will serve as a vehicle for offering teachers and tutors access to the educational material for media literacy; ensure their preparedness; manage training in the most suitable and effective way and enable professionals of all levels of education to promote collaborative learning and co-creation of content in a virtual environment.

The platform provides the following main services: (a) Online Training Course, (b) User registration and  profile management, (c) Showcase of the audiovisual materials/Upload  content, (d)  Collaboration/Community Space and finally (e)  Fora.  In this way, the platform  provides a virtual space for all those (students, teachers, tutors, parents, community) who share this common interest about media education and work towards the shared goal.

So, the CrAL Platform of the Creative Audiovisual Lab for the promotion of critical thinking and media literacy is almost  ready to start up tutors training!!

The kick-off meeting of the WorkingSmart project

On December 20-21st, 2021, a first transnational meeting of the WorkingSmart project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ of the European Commission, took place in Lyon, France. Hellenic Open University with DAISSy research group is the Greek partner of the project.

Hosted by IPRA/MEDEF Auvergne Rhone Alpes, 15 persons participated in a two-day long meeting (9 persons on-site at MEDEF premises, and 6 persons were connected on-line) representing all project partners coming from France, Greece, Italy, Slovenia, and Spain.

The project meeting was dedicated to networking, project management, administrative, financial aspects, the quality evaluation, and reporting obligations of all partners. It was fundamental to all partners as has allowed to draw a common understanding of project goals and objectives, validate the management of the project work plan, better clarify rules and responsibilities of each partner, and define communication agreements and procedures.

WorkingSmart is a two-year long Erasmus+ project (November 2021-October 2023) striving to challenge EU MSMEs to take into account the empowerment culture brought about by new technologies and smart working with different working approaches and lifestyles, among women and men.

The project aims to train and empower a novel Smart Working Manager/Advisor capable of dealing with resistance to change inside and outside EU organizations, primarily embedded into the resistance not (only) to technical change but social and cultural change (personal relationships) that will accompany the digital change.

The project seeks for participation of indirect beneficiaries (entrepreneurs, managers and executives, workers, and independent professionals) at different stages of the project (focus groups, piloting, multiplier events), so as to better manage their specific concerns and make learners more skilful.

During the project a number of ICT-based training tools and resources will be developed to support the acquisition of digital and entrepreneurial competences compliant with the EU DigComp and EntreComp frameworks, with a particular focus on problem solving issues.

Novel professionals benefiting from this project will be trained to help organizations and their managers to be capable of planning smart working in a way that is flexible and fit for purpose, dealing with organisational and labour issues, including compliance to the GDPR and performance measurement and management, in terms of both measurable and acceptable modifications in the physical and daily routines of the job, as well as the way flexible working will alter the established hierarchical and control relationships.

At the end of this learning and teaching experience of global smart working competence, the EU workforce, including young professionals will be better prepared and engaged as collaborative problem solvers, regardless of the specific job levels.

DELTA Press Release of the 2nd Greek multiplier event

delta-logoOn Wednesday, 12 January 2022, at 18.00-20.00, an online event with the title “Digital skills in archaeological research and education” was organized as part of the European project DELTA. The event was organized by the Department of History and Archaeology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, partner of the DELTA project, with the participation of the Hellenic Open University, coordinator of the project.

The event was divided in two parts, one hour each. The first part focused on the results of the DELTA project, presented by researchers of the project. The second part was of more general character, dealing with the use of digital technologies in archaeology and the training of archaeologists, which were the subject of the talks given by two distinguished invited speakers.

The event started with a short presentation of the project by Dr. Achilleas Kameas, Professor of the School of Science and Technology of the Hellenic Open University, Director of the DAISSy research group of the Hellenic Open University, and Scientific Coordinator of the DELTA project.

The first presentation was made by Mrs. Panagiota Polymeropoulou, Archaeologist – Museologist MSc., Researcher in the DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University; the presentation focused on the pilot blended course “Digital Excavation” and the online DELTA platform. Mrs. Polymeropoulou presented in detail the methodology and the content of the pilot blended course which was designed and developed by the four partners of the DELTA project, as well as the online learning platform, which was designed and developed by the DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University. The online part of the pilot blended course “Digital Excavation” took place from 10 May to the end of August 2021. The final phase of the course was the Intensive Study Program.

The next two presentations referred to the tutors’ experience during the supervision of the pilot blended course “Digital Excavation”. Mrs. Antigoni Kalara, PhD candidate of Prehistoric Archaeology in the Department of History and Archaeology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, presented her experience from the tutoring of the trainees in the digital platform of the course. The following presentation by Dr. Yiannis Papadatos, Associate Professor of Prehistoric Archeology in the Department of History and Archaeology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and Director of the NKUA excavation at Plasi, Marathon, concerned the teaching experience from the face-to-face activities and the Intensive Study Program, held in the NKUA excavation at Marathon in October 2021.

The first part of the event closed with the presentations of Mrs. Eleni Gourgouleti, Mr. Giorgos Ntzoufras, and Mr. Giorgos Tasopoulos, undergraduate students of the Department of History and Archaeology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. The students presented their experience from the participation in the pilot blended course (i.e. the digital platform, the face-to-face activities and the Intensive Study Program in the field), and discussed the strengths of the course, and made suggestions about possible improvements.

The second part of the event included the presentations of two invited speakers dealing with the implementation of the digital technology in the modern archaeological research and the digital skills that need to be acquired by students of archeology during their studies.

The first presentation was given by Dr. Yiannis Lolos, Associate Professor of Classical Archeology in the Department of History, Archaeology and Social Anthropology of the University of Thessaly, and Director of Sikyon Excavations, concerning the use of digital technologies in the archaeological field research.

The second presentation was given by Dr. Markos Katsianis, Assistant Professor in the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Patras, concerning the digital skills which are considered essential for modern archeologists and need to be included in undergraduate studies offered by Greek Departments of Archaeology.

The event closed with an open discussion and answers to questions made by the audience. The discussion demonstrated the need for digital tools and skills to be included in the archaeological curricula of the Greek Departments of Archaeology. Also, many students expressed their interest to attend the online course “Digital Excavation”, when the online training platform will be reactivated at the end of February 2022.

The event was organized online, via Webex, because of the measures against the pandemic . It was particularly successful; 114 people attended the meeting, which was also widely advertised in the social media. Out of a total of 114 participants, the largest part of the audience (75%) were students and graduates of study programs related to Culture and Archeology from many Greek universities: Athens, Thessaloniki, Thessaly, Patras, Ioannina, Crete, Aegean, Thrace, Peloponnese, Ionian, Hellenic Open University, Athens University of Economics and Business, National Technical University; some participants were from universities outside Greece: Rovira i Virgili in Taragona, Groningen, University College London, Antwerp, Cologne, Aix-Marseille and Tübingen. Apart from students, who represented the largest part of the audience, the event was also attended by professors of Archeology of Greek universities, researchers from Greek research institutions, as well as archaeologists serving in the Ministry of Culture and Sports, museums and other Greek cultural institutions.

CrAL project: Media literacy is a nessecity

logo-cralThe DAISSy Reserach Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU) and the whole CrAL project team, working during this period on the localization of the innovative CrAL methodology, look forward to moving on to the next step. The CrAL MOOC will be soon available on the CrAL platform, which is developed by the DAISSy Research Group of HOU, the Greek partner of the project.

CrAL is aiming to promote media literacy, critical thinking and active citizenship among the teenagers (14-19 years old) of the participating European countries.

Nowadays, Media literacy is considered as one of the most important skills. The importance of media literacy was underlined by the Greek Pedagogical Institute since 1995-2004, when an initial focus on the Audiovisual Expression in a Laboratory by the well-known Program „MELINA – Education and culture“, resulted to a „Teacher’s Guide for Audiovisual Expression“. It was a Pedagogical Institute’s first initiative to form a Greek Curriculum included a series of suggestions for activities that step by step promotes audiovisual consciousness of those who practice them.

As we are waiting for the CrAL MOOC and the implementation of Creative Audiovisual Literacy methodology in Secondary schools, lets see what „media“ is and why „media literacy“ becomes an evident nessesity nowadays for the worldwide democracy.

McLuhan had predicticted long time ago that „media is the message“. He focused on analysing the form in which the content is delivered to us by the media. He argues that, since the „medium is the message“, if we don’t understand the medium we don’t understand the message either. The form informs our “identities”, the way we perceive ourselves, and as the form changes to the current digital media,  our perception of the world and of ourselves is also shaped by this fast growing shift. Call for Abstracts for the International Conference “Economic and Social Integration of Asylum Seekers and Refugees through Social Entrepreneurship”

logo-reinserThe International Conference “Economic and Social Inclusion of Asylum Seekers and Refugees through Social Entrepreneurship” will be held on March 10th, 2022, at the University of Bologna, in the framework of the REInSER project, whose partner is the DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University.

Contributions focusing on theoretical approaches, policies and practices and projects to integrate refugees through social entrepreneurship are invited. Applications from senior and junior scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and everyone who works or has an interest on the Conference theme are accepted. As for scholars, please note that the conference is interdisciplinary, and open to contribution from economics, political sciences, sociology, anthropology, and other relevant disciplines and sub-disciplines.

The deadline to submit abstracts is January 30th, 2022.

About the REInSER project

The main objective of the REInSER project is to improve the economic, and consequently wider, integration of refugees in host societies of the ADRION programme area by using approaches of social economy and in particular social entrepreneurship and by tapping the potential of networking and knowledge transfer of transnational as well as cross-sectional cooperation of key stakeholders.

The long-term objective of the REInSER is on the one hand to enhance possibilities for refugees to become active economic actors and agents of their own integration in a given host society and on the other hand to contribute to the local and regional sustainable economic development by generating employment and supporting the creation of new social responsible businesses.

REInSER brings together 8 project partners from academia, business support organisations and local authorities gathering different expertise, knowledge and skills in 6 countries of the ADRION area (Slovenia, Italy, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Croatia).

REInSER main outputs involve:

  1. The creation of an innovative transnational cooperation network that will bring national, regional and local governments, governmental bodies, NGOs, social entrepreneurs, academics and refugees together in a common programme as the first of its kind in the ADRION region.
  2. The transnational knowledge exchange through study trips, gathered best practices, shared methodologies and approaches.
  3. A business toolbox and pilot actions (including a hackathon) envisaging the development of contrete social entrepreneurial ideas with refugees, supported by an experimental social ecosystem.
  4. The preparation of a holistic transnational strategy and an action plan for the successful integration of refugees, supported by an experimental social ecosystem.

The project is supported by the Interreg ADRION Programme funded under the European Regional Development Fund and IPA II fund.

Training the archaeologists with digital skills

The DELTA project (Digital Excavation through Learning and Training in Archeology) is a transnational program under the Erasmus + EU program (Strategic Partnerships for Higher Education) and is coordinated by the Hellenic Open University, bringing together 4 partners – Universities from 3 European countries (Greece, Italy and the Czech Republic). The project aims to design and develop a mixed course that combines the physical space of an archaeological excavation with the digital space of online education. With the course “Digital Excavation” Archeology students will be able to improve their knowledge and skills and specially to develop digital skills for the 21st century.

DAISSy-HOU matches BIBLIO with PATRAS IQ 2021

biblio-logoOn 6th December 2021, with the participation of tutors, teachers, researchers, public servants, policy designers and people interested in the development of digital competences, a vivid related event took place.

More specifically, the DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU), the Greek BIBLIO partner, organized an online event entitled Development of digital skills of professionals and citizens” aiming at presenting the valuable educational tools (MOOCS and online courses) that have been developed by the Group through the implementation of numerous EU projects (e.g. BIBLIO, ESSA, EUHerit, Roman Routes, SILVHER, Smart Devops και STEAMOnEdu). The event was powered by PatrasIQ 2021 (Innovation & Technology), the reference and interconnection point of the relevant ecosystem of the city of Patras. It is noteworthy, that the “PATRAS IQ” initiative embraces education, innovation, research and entrepreneurship on annual basis and at national level for more than eight years on the row. It has been strongly supported by Hellenic Open University (HOU) since the beginning and is being implemented in Patras, metropolitan centre of Western Greece, the city of the HOU Headquarters.

Prof Achilles KAMEAS, Director of DAISSy Research Group of HOU, the Greek partner of BIBLIO, launched the webinar and presented in brief the profile of DAISSy, its mission, objectives and map of projects. Dr Leonidas Papachristopoulos, Librarian at DLIC-HOU, delivered the speech about the BIBLIO project and highlighted the way it contributes to the formation of the modern librarian. Leonidas presented the content and functionalities of the BIBLIO MOOC, as well as the benefits that it offers to the participants. The BIBLIO MOOC modules were briefly described as well as the timetable, study effort and benefits. Leonidas, pinpointed the remarkable number of the trainees (1.367 participants), the variety of their background (university students, librarians, museum staff, teachers, ICT professionals) and place of origin (40 countries). He described the multi-dimensional content of the BIBLIO training program, by explaining that the MOOC is part of the modular training programme, to be followed by the BIBLIO blended training course and the work-based learning activities.

  • The online discussion was vivid and raised the interest of the speakers and participants. The event proved to be an excellent platform of matching BIBLIO with PATRAS IQ providing added value to the establishment of new bonds, the enrichment of stakeholders, the promotion of the project and its current results
  • The DAISSy Research Group of the HOU is the Greek partner of the BIBLIO project (ERASMUS+ / 612411-EPP-1-2019-1-IT-EPPKA2-SSA) and implements it, in cooperation with the Distance Library and Documentation Centre (DLIC) of the HOU, associate partner.

EUHeritage is a transnational project developed under Erasmus+ EU program (Sector Skills Alliance for Design and Delivery of VET) coordinated by Materahub. The project created a new transnational curriculum for cultural heritage professionals, focused on digital skills, transferable and transversal competences, soft skills and skills connected to “experience tourism” in the field of cultural heritage. proj-instr-eventThe DAISSy Reserach Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU), presented the european project Creative Audiovisual Lab for the promotion of critical thinking and media literacy (CrAL) at the multiplier event entitled “INSTRUCTION-Upskilling school teachers for education-work transition”. The event was organized by the Hellenic Open University (HOU) – DAISSy Research Group, and took place on the 25th November 2021 in the BYZANTINO Hotel in Patras – Greece, attracting more than 20-30 representatives of educational, cultural and policy making sectors in Greece despite the restrictive measures in place due to the Covid pandemic.

During the presentation entitled “Media Literacy and Inclusive Education in the framework of the CrAL project” the results of the project, the development of the CrAL platform by the DAISSY Research Team of HOU and in general the actions aimed at the educational community were presented. The main goal of the project to enhance the digital skills, creativity, active citizenship, critical thinking and media literacy of both teachers and students via audiovisual creative writing and reading, as well as the project’s partnership, funding, structure, target groups, benefits for the educational community and all other main elements were also analyzed.

The DAISSy’s Research Group event was completed with great success and the CrAL’s project presentation aroused the interest and the attention of the organizers as well as of the participants. This was the first live event in which the CrAL project was presented, after the beginning of the Covid pandemic.

1. Χαρτογραφήσουν και προσδιορίσουν τη δυναμική της απασχόλησης στον τομέα της άυλης πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς και πιο συγκεκριμένα, να:

  • προσδιορίσουν τα τυπικά βήματα και τις διαδικασίες για δραστηριότητες και πρωτοβουλίες της άυλης πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς,
  • βγάλουν συμπεράσματα από αυτές τις διαδικασίες και πρωτοβουλίες, για τα επαγγελματικά προφίλ και τα σύνολα των δεξιοτήτων που απαιτούνται, δηλαδή απαιτήσεις γνώσεων και σύνολα δεξιοτήτων για χειριστές/επαγγελματίες άυλης πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς, σχεδιασμός, επικοινωνία, διαχείριση έργων, συγκέντρωση κεφαλαίων, διαχείριση της υλικοτεχνικής υποδομής, του προϋπολογισμού κ.λπ.
  • καταγράψουν τι είδους επαγγέλματα, θέσεις εργασίας και επαγγελματικά προφίλ εμπλέκονται επί του παρόντος στην Άυλη Πολιτιστική Κληρονομιά

2. Προσδιορίσουν και ταξινομήσουν τα επαγγελματικά προφίλ στον τομέα:

  • Ανάπτυξη επαγγελματικών κατηγοριών εξάγοντας συμπεράσματα από τα παραπάνω,
  • Προσδιορισμό των επαγγελματικών απαιτήσεων, των συνόλων δεξιοτήτων και των ικανοτήτων που απαιτούνται για την εκτέλεση αυτών των δραστηριοτήτων

3. Αξιολογήσουν συγκριτικά τα επαγγελματικά προφίλ έναντι του ESCO: να προσδιορίσουν πού βρίσκονται αυτές οι ικανότητες στην ταξινόμηση ESCO

4. Προσδιορίσουν τα σχετικά επίπεδα EQF: να τοποθετήσουν τα προφίλ της άυλης πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς κατά μήκος της κλίμακας του EQF, στοχεύοντας στο επιπεδο του EQF από το 3 έως το 5.

Η Επιτροπή της ΕΕ έχει προτείνει διάφορες πρωτοβουλίες, αλλά δεν υπάρχει κοινό πλαίσιο για τις επαγγελματικές δεξιότητες των χειριστών της άυλης πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς, ιδίως όσον αφορά το σύστημα ESCO. Ως εκ τούτου, μεταξύ άλλων αποτελεσμάτων, το παραδοτέο IO2 επισημαίνει τις πιο συχνές ικανότητες που ορίζονται στις Εκθέσεις των χωρών της κοινοπραξίας και θα τροφοδοτήσει τον σχεδιασμό και την ανάπτυξη των διδακτικών ενοτήτων που θα ακολουθήσουν (IO3 – Ανάπτυξη και παροχή κατάρτισης).

Το NICHE είναι ένα έργο Erasmus+ διάρκειας 24 μηνών που είναι σε ισχύ αυτή τη στιγμή από μια κοινοπραξία 9 εταίρων από 7 ευρωπαϊκές χώρες (Ισλανδία, Ιρλανδία, Ιταλία, Ισπανία, Ελλάδα, Σουηδία, Βέλγιο). Ο στόχος του NICHE (Nurturing Intangible Cultural Heritage for Entrepreneurship) είναι να ενισχύσει την επιχειρηματικότητα στον τομέα της άυλης πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς αναπτύσσοντας μια καινοτόμα εκπαίδευση για την ομάδα επαγγελματιών (και μελλοντικών) που δεν εκπροσωπούνται επαρκώς, και δραστηριοποιούνται για την προώθηση επιχειρηματικών πρωτοβουλιών στον τομέα, την ενίσχυση της ανταγωνιστικότητας του τομέα και τη διατήρηση της ανάπτυξης του.
