“INclusive TOURism professions. European curricula for accessible tourism manager and frontline staff” project was completed with success, by DAISSy-HOU!
The “INclusive TOURism professions – European curricula for accessible tourism manager and frontline staff (In-Tour)” European project was completed with success, and received a very positive evaluation score of 82/100 by EACEA, summarizing a 45-month demanding and high-quality implementation by the project consortium, with the DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU), as the Greek partner.
The In-Tour project started on January 1st, 2020, and ended September 30th, 2023, with the clear objective of covering the gap within the educational system regarding knowledge and competences in the field of Inclusive – Accessible Tourism at European level. The overall aim of the project was to equip managers and personnel in tourism sector with the appropriate knowledge, skills, personal and transversal competences in order to provide adequate services for all the customers, especially those with specific access requirements.
Particularly, the In-Tour project managed to fill the existing gap by providing quality training, through:
- Defining occupational profiles (according to ESCO definition) for Inclusive Tourism Manager (ITM) and Inclusive Tourism Frontline Staff (ITFS)
- Specifying the skill gaps by directly connecting the demand with representatives of tourism industries and entrepreneurs and by analyzing the good practices already developed (even within other European Projects)
- Defining the European Curricula in the accessible tourism sector, at EQF level 5, 6 and 7
- Designing a flexible and modular training path for both curricula
- Delivering the curricula in pilot’s courses in different countries (Germany, Greece and Italy)
The Curricula were defined in a flexible modular way, in order to provide a general European reference model which could be implemented in each EU Member State, and they were tested through five local pilots, by incorporating work-based learning.
It is noteworthy, that the In-Tour project produced a wide range of deliverables (54 in total) which are available, free of charge, through the project’s website.
The DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU), was the project partner responsible for the implementation of all In-Tour activities in Greece, participated in all project work packages and deliverables, and was the Leading Partner of the WP5-Delivery of Pilot Courses. In addition, it was responsible for the development of the In-Tour e-learning platform regarding the five (5) pilot courses delivered through the project’s pilot Universities, namely the Hellenic Open University-HOU (Greece), the Fachhochschule Dresden University of Applied Sciences—FHD (Germany) and the University of Genova- UNIGE (Italy).
More precisely, the Greek pilot courses for the “Inclusive Tourism Frontline Staff (ITFS)” (EQF-level 5) and the “Inclusive Manager in Tourism (ITM)” (EQF-level 6) were based on a blended (combination of synchronous and asynchronous) distance learning format, with Greek tutors and each one attracted more than forty (40) participants from the tourism sector. They were supported by the “Training & Lifelong Learning Centre-KEDIVIM” of the HOU and their detailed programme was available at Centre’s official website.
The In-Tour activities implemented by the DAISSy-HOU in Greece, were coordinated by Achilles Kameas, Professor at HOU, Director of DAISSy, and were managed by Vicky Maratou, Project Manager at DAISSy (until April 2023) and by Panagiota Polymeropoulou, Senior Researcher at DAISSy. The In-Tour working team of DAISSy included Ioanna Giannoukou (Professor at the University of Patras), Christos Pierrakeas (Professor at the University of Patras & HOU), Marina Giannakakou (Technician at DAISSy) and Foteini Gatomati (Senior Administrative staff at DAISSy).

The DAISSy Research Group of HOU participated at the 16th “International Conference of Education, Research and Innovation” with five papers
The 16thannual International Conference of Education, Research and Innovation (ICERI) was held from 13 to 15 November 2023 in Seville (Spain) on the topic of “Transforming Education, Transforming Lives”. The Conference provided a unique opportunity to present a number of papers showcasing research results of European co-funded projects in which the DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU) participates.
The International Academy of Technology, Education and Development (IATED) has been organizing ICERI on an annual basis for sixteen (16) years in a row. It is a Conference that has become a prominent global educational event and thus, this year it attracted seven hundred and eighty (780) delegates from sixty (60) countries. Hence the presence of DAISSy researchers in the conference significantly increased the impact of research conducted by the Research Group.
DAISSy-HOU was actively involved in the ICERI 2023 Conference contributing five (5) scientific papers, a result of the high-standard work and international collaborations of the Group. The papers showcased the results of european research projects, which produce innovative methodologies and tools regarding education in the digital era, that are undergoing by DAISSy with prof. DAISSy-HOU announces successful completion of the Training Course on “Blended Learning: Education of Tomorrow, Today” within the InnStation project
The DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU), has successfully completed the Training Course (TC) entitled “Blended Learning: Education of Tomorrow, Today”. The TC was offered within the framework of the European co-funded project “Innovation Station: A New Approach to Online and Blended Learning (InnStation)” in which DAISSy is the Greek partner.
It is noteworthy that the TC of the InnStation project had a laboratory format and was attended by twenty-five (25) teachers of Primary and Secondary Education, who acquired valuable knowledge on the implementation of the blended learning model and self-directed learning in practice. The TC aims at the design of digital material and digital courses, supportive to face-to-face learning, by utilizing tools such as software, applications, platforms and the exchange of European good practices that enhance and cultivate the autonomy of learners.
Specifically, the TP of the InnStation project:
- Was based on the blended learning model, with asynchronous and synchronous participation in the LAMS platform and was available free of charge.
- Had a total duration of thirty (30) hours over a period of four (4) weeks and included five (5) Teaching Modules, as follows:
- Module 1: Familiarization with the working environment of the LAMS platform for blended learning
- Module 2: Cultivating the autonomy of students in learning and introduction to basic concepts
- Module 3. Utilization of good practices from the European area for blended learning
- Module 4: Key parameters in self-directed learning
- Module 5: e-Safety
- The twenty-four (24) hours of participation were carried out asynchronously, with study of material and assignments on the LAMS platform, while the six (6) hours with face-to-face laboratory training.
- The educational material was based on the Teacher’s Guidebook for Self-Directed and Blended Learning, one of the deliverables of the InnStation project.
- Twenty-five (25) participants successfully completed and received a Certificate of Successful Completion.
The aim of the project InnStation is to upgrade the digital skills of teacher and educators by providing resources and educational material. An additional prominent goal is to enhance the learning ability of students and undergraduate students. Moreover, the project aims to cultivate the autonomy of young people during their participation in online education and to develop the skills of self-directed and self-managed learning.
The InnStation project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union and is implemented by a consortium of five (5) partners from five (5) European countries (Greece, Belgium, Italy, Netherlands, Poland), including the Hellenic Open University through the DAISSy Research Group.

The OpenDCO MOOC for Smart City Open Data is out and is supported by DAISSy-HOU Participation is free and registrations are open!
The DAISSy research group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU) announces the launch of the OpenDCO Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on 19th March 2024!
This MOOC was developed in the framework of the “OpenDCO-Open Data City Officer European project, currently undergoing by DAISSy-HOU as the Greek partner, which aims at developing a professional profile focused on open data of smart cities at a European level, as well as a modular curriculum covering all the different aspects of an Open Data City Officer job role.
The OpenDCO MOOC includes twenty (20) learning modules targeting acquisition of essential knowledge and skills in smart cities and open data, as well as the management and exploitation of open data, so as to develop innovative applications in a multitude of sectors, such as education, transport and health.
The OpenDCO MOOC starts on 19th March 2024 and is offered in four languages (EN, EL, DE and PT).

DAISSy-HOU announces the second round of the NEFELE MOOC: Registration is open to join in!
The DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (Hellenic Open University) announces a second round of implementation of the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on “Promoting the professional development of students in school”, which is part of the European project “Neet prevention in Educational systems through positive Future vision Enhancing Learning and teacher Education-NEFELE”, currently undergoing by DAISSy-HOU, as the Greek partner. It is a modern MOOC, aimed at training teachers in their critical role of supporting the professional development of students. The first round of the MOOC implementation was completed with success; the same MOOC is launched once again, so that to respond to the interest of those who missed the opportunity to join in it, in the recent past.
Specifically, the MOOC includes four (4) training modules based on the theoretical framework of career development and positive psychology, linked to practical examples for teachers, so that they can promote career planning for their students in the classroom. It also has one (1) educational module based on NEFELE BOX, which is the toolkit for the tangible user interface that the teacher can utilize with the students, supporting the design of their future career path. It is interspersed with videos, presentations and reading material as well as short quizzes (at the end of each module) so that learners can assess their progress.
In particular, the e-learning platform of the NEFELE project is designed and developed in English, Italian, Greek, Spanish and Dutch. It fosters collaboration and exchange among the participants, as it includes forums and discussion areas. The MOOC learning content in English [e.g. Open Education Resources (OERs), lectures, video scripts, presentations] was collected, developed and based on this, the MOOC videos were created. It is noteworthy that the learning materials, classified into modules, are available in five (5) languages under the NEFELE project partnership scheme.
Upon successful completion of the MOOC, participants will learn about:
- Current and future challenges related to the world of work
- Main aspects and main theories of career development from childhood to adolescence
- How the teacher can support the career development and well-being of students in the school environment
- Main positive psychology theories of well-being
- Ways of positive education intervention in the school environment
- Tangible user interfaces
- Digital career narrative
- Use of the NEFELE Box to promote career development and wellbeing in the classroom
It is worth noting that:
- The new round of the NEFELE MOOC starts on Μarch 20, 2024, has a five(5)-week duration and ends on April 24, 2024.
- The deadline for registration is March 17, 2024.
- Participants who successfully complete the MOOC will receive a Certificate of Completion
- It is provided free of charge to any interested party, internationally.

NEFELE is a 30-month project (1st December 2021-31st May 2024), funded by the Erasmus+ EU programme and implemented by a consortium of six (6) partners from five (5) countries (Spain, Italy, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Greece), with DAISSy-HOU as the Greek partner. Invitation by DAISSy-HOU to the online seminar on “Progress and results towards a European Roadmap on STE(A)M education” of “The SEER” project
The DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU) invites you to join the “STE(A)M Education European Roadmap (the SEER) Seminar: Progress and results towards a European Roadmap on STE(A)M education”, to be held online on Wednesday 27th March 2024 (16:00 – 17:15 CET) . The event is part of the “STE(A)M Education European Roadmap (the SEER)” EU project, currently undergoing by the DAISSy-HOU, as the Greek partner.
Through this interactive online seminar, the SEER team will showcase the results of the project to date while opening a conversation with practitioners and key education stakeholders on the availability and accessibility of STE(A)M education resources and continuous professional development opportunities for teachers. Guest projects will offer additional perspectives on STE(A)M teaching and learning, which combined with the SEER will provide the audience with a cohesive view of the journey ahead to mainstreaming STE(A)M education in Europe.
The seminar is addressed to teachers, educators and all other stakeholders interested in joining the conversation on the diversity and the value of STE(A)M practices and the availability of STE(A)M resources and professional development opportunities for practitioners.

This tool intends to align stakeholders, enhance policy, centralize resources, boost education-industry partnerships, and uphold superior teaching methods to improve STE(A)M education in Europe. Furthermore, it will facilitate the collaboration and coordination between “The SEER” and the two sister projects, “Sense” and “Road Steamer”, which will lead to the development of the Atlas of Roadmaps.

DAISSy – HOU announces the 2nd student competition on the contemporary socio -economic challenges via the “Learn.Inc ” project!
The DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU is pleased to announce the 2nd student competition on “Using the digital educational environment to solve modern socio-economic challenges (Challenge Based Learning -CBL)” to be implemented within the framework of the “Learn.Inc : Learning Incubator for Project- based Teaching and Training through Research” EU project.
In particular, with regard to the CBL student competition of the Learn.Inc project, it is noteworthy that:
- It is addressed to all postgraduate and PhD students of Greek Universities.
- It is carried out in cooperation with Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu (Romania), Sofia University St. Clement Ohridski (Bulgaria), Canakkale Onsekiz Mart Universitesi (Turkey) and Research & Training Foundation Point Foundation (Bulgaria).
The aim of the student competition is to highlight innovative ideas in order to solve cutting-edge problems of socio-economic reality. By bringing learning and formal education closer to the agenda of the society and the local communities, the Learn.Inc project seeks to create a supportive environment for the launch of “bottom-up” initiatives, accessible to both the teachers and the students, so that they all develop knowledge in a flexible way. At the same time, research is a key element of the whole process, where students will follow personalized learning paths that will lead them to their own results and achievements. The need of the students to interface with both private businesses and social organizations, is the impetus of the CBL student competition.
More precisely, the participants of the CBL competition are invited to develop a short idea, so that learning takes place through the identification, the analysis and the design of a solution to a real social, technical or business problem. Looking for answers to the above stages, students are invited to present their scientific proposals to an Evaluation Committee, consisting of representatives of the Learn.Inc project team and the associated partner institutions.
As a result, the participants in the CBL student competition will have the opportunity to be involved in a creative process of participatory training (in collaboration with other users and groups from the University and business community) in order to develop skills, aiming at experiencing their idea being shaped and transformed into a complete application. A pitching exchange among the various ideas will be part of the competition, to be followed by an evaluation process and an award to the most innovative proposals.
The CBL student competition of the Learn.Inc project includes the following phases:

DAISSy Research Group of HOU invites you to register in the CrAL platform supporting the skills of teachers on digital means and critical thinking
Welcome to the CrAL Platform – a dedicated space for educators and school communities.
The platform has been developed by the DAISSY Research Group of the Hellenic Open University within the framework of the “Creative Audiovisual Lab for the Promotion of Critical Thinking and Visual Media Literacy (CrAL)” European project, undergoing by DAISSy as the Greek partner.

1. Online training course for teachers and trainers
The platform offers a training course consisting of ten (10) modules covering technical, digital, and creative skills. The course is available in English, Italian, Spanish, Croatian, Lithuanian, and Greek. Through different modules you will get the opportunity to grasp the CrAL methodology and learn how to use it to enhance young people’s creative audiovisual literacy.
2. Showcase of audiovisual materials produced by young people
Young people and their teachers that participated in the implementation of the CrAL methodology in Croatia, Italy, Lithuania, and Spain created audiovisual materials. On the platform you will find a collection of these audiovisual materials, as well as the winning videos from each national context. 3. Online Community of Practice
