Description

Many European countries are faced with high levels of unemployment among youngsters. Universities around the European Union have tried to bridge the gap between the knowledge they deliver and the demands of the labor market. In this perspective, they have tried to express their diplomas in terms of skills and competences. This is one of the key points of the recent reform LMD (Licence, Master, Doctorate) to propose a common framework to European universities to enhance transparency and mutual recognition of the diplomas and as a result the validation of their students’ skills and competences. The main reproach made to youngsters is to lack of a professional experience.

The VAB project aims at proposing a pedagogical tool together with an e-training to allow University teachers to take into account in the evaluation of their students any competences acquired via non-formal/formal learning outside university. The VAB project will enable teachers to value the personal, social and professional experience acquired by their students beyond the University in order to enhance their professional integration. The expected impact of the VAB project is a better preparation of teachers/trainers working at the University to answer the labor market’s needs.

Project Outcomes

The main results to be achieved through the VAB project are :

  • A pedagogical tool, a portfolio.
  • A digital pedagogical tool, an e-portfolio.
  • An e-training course.
  • Reports on the experimental use of the e-portfolio.< /li>
  • Networks of teachers/trainers, universities/training bodies, experts in lifelong learning and professionals of the labour market.
  • Newsletter and website for the dissemination of the results;
  • Articles and publications on the results achieved.

Title Developing qualification profiles for jobs in Ambient-Assisted Living

    Acronym CompAAL

Framework LifeLong Learning Programme – Leonardo da Vinci

    Project Number 518218-LLP-1-2011-1-DE-LEONARDO-LMP

    Start – End Date 01/01/2012 – 31/12/2013

    Duration 24 months

Instrument / Type Multilateral Projects for Development of innovation

    Funding Agency EU-EACEA

    Total Project Funding 398.317 €

    Project Homepage http://groupspaces.com/compaal-project/

    Status Completed

Description

CompAAL is an EU funded project aiming to develop qualification profiles for jobs in Ambient-Assisted Living (AAL). AAL specialist skills are needed in many professions, in which job requirements have changed because of fast-evolving technologies. New skills profiles have to be set-up for professionals from various backgrounds, for example architects building AAL compatible homes, staff of ambulatory home care and, most of all, IT specialists in order to enable them design AAL systems and interfaces, to manage interoperability, as well as to create, manage and moderate social networks.

CompAAL will identify the main needs and requirements in jobs in the field of AAL in the participating countries and the knowledge, skills and competences (learning outcomes), which are insufficiently trained in the framework of related qualification programmes. For this purpose, each project partner will carry out desk and fiel research analysing all available studies and extracting the learning outcomes, i.e. knowledge, skills and competences needed for AAL related jobs.

CompAAL will have a long-term impact on vocational training institutions providing further education in the fields of AAL-related ICT applications and geriatric care in the sense that they will be able to improve their training offers based on the developed training guidelines. These adaptations will reduce the mismatch between trained competences and competences needed in the labour market and will also increase the comparability of qualifications in the field of AAL via reference to the various levels of EQF. Employers in AAL-related jobs will be able to recruit appropriate staff from all over Europe, as qualification profiles will increase transparency and comparability of all AAL qualifications.

Project Outcomes

CompAAL will carry out field research to specify and collect competence in the framework of a field study, professionals in the field of AAL respectively their employers will be interviewed in all participating countries using a standardised questionnaire in order to specify the knowledge, skills and competence needs in this area.

The outcomes of CompAAL will be relevant for the research sector, the ICT sector, the health care sector, the contruction sector as well as the VET sector in general. Consequently, the project consortium involves higher and vocational education institutions as well as SME associations from these different sectors.

The Main innovative elements and outcomes foreseen by the development of CompAAL project are:

  • Definition of a set of 4-5 European qualification profiles for jobs in the field of Ambient-Assisted Living (Suggested: AAL Assistant / Agent, AAL Systems Manager, AAL Usability & Design Specialist, AAL Agent for Interoperability, AAL Social Networker, AAL privacy/ ethical expert), mapping knowledge, competences and skills aligned to the eCF/EQF. (PDF)
  • XML-based versions of the job profiles.
  • Guidelines for training institutions complying to the principles of the ECVET so that they can set up training offers in the field of ambient-assisted living professions accordingly. (PDF)

Description

The SONETOR project enhances Cultural Mediators’ formal and non-formal skills and competences through the development of innovative training content, methods and procedures through Vocational Education and Training (VET). This project is the vehicle for improving knowledge competences and skills of any professional who formally or informally interacts with immigrants and for promoting innovation in vocational training of Cultural Mediators through the social networking training platform. The main outcomes of the project (job profile, training content and scenarios, social networking platform) are usable in such changing environments.

The SONETOR project has developed a training platform that integrates existing social networking applications with modern adult education methodologies and specially produced content and services, in order to assist Cultural Mediators in developing formal and non-formal skills and competences and in applying them during their work with immigrants.

The proposed project affects the current situation regarding cultural mediation as follows:

  • A European community of Cultural Mediators has been formed, ensuring the sustainability of project outcome
  • The skills and competences of Cultural Mediators have been systematically described for the first time; this description serves as the basis for the specification of real life-like training scenarios
  • The social networking training platform is continuously supported to serve as a European focal point for Cultural Mediators and other stakeholders.

Project Outcomes

The project has achieved the following concrete objectives:

  • A detailed comparative user needs analysis in the fields of legislation, training, collaboration and skills definition
  • A project portal serving as a focal communication point for European Cultural Mediators and other stakeholders.
  • Highly interactive, efficient digital content composed mainly of videos, but also containing text, wikis, forums etc.
  • Peer learning scenarios on topics related to the everyday practice of Cultural Mediators, such as Health, Education, Public services, etc
  • A European learning community of Cultural Mediators composed of representatives of all stakeholders.
  • Five pilot training sessions, one per participating country, with the participation of members of the learning community
  • Six evaluation reports, summarizing the project progress and evaluating its outcome
  • Five promotional workshops, one in each participating country, together with leaflets, brochures and a promotional project video
  • A final plenary workshop, organized in Greece, to promote the outcomes of the project and define exploitation and sustainability policies.
